Water heater tripping

I have a SWIFT CHALLENGER (LIFESTYLE) 2002,Just come back & while i was away the water heater kept tripping when switched on ... knocking everything off in the caravan! !.I have checked the fuses & i have changed the 5 amp fuse in the water heater switch itself but same thing happens.Could the element in the water heater need replacing??Does anybody have any ideas or experienced similar probs ?.

Hi David, Assumming your water is a Truma, the first thing to check is the mains cable from switch to heater, just to make sure there are no staples through the cable, ( a fairly common problem) if thats OK then your element will have failed and requires changing.

Sounds like the element has failed. We had a similar problem and when I checked the element there was a pinhole in the sheath which let water into the element. They are about

Hello Kenneth,

If teh heater ran dry, then the over temperature trip would operate. this would not cause the the RCD trip to operated. If the RCD is tripping it indicated there is a current leakage which imbalances the incoming supply. Typically and based on previous complaints it points to an element failure.
