Water ingress

Hi all,
I have a 2010 Lunar Clubman SE and discovered some damp in the bottom of the front left shelf beneath the window. I took it back to where the caravan was purchased and where I get it serviced. It is still covered by the warranty. The guys at the service place got a replacement front interior section from Lunar, which they replaced. It took them a week (instead of the 10 hours that Lunar had told them it would take) as they hadn't done anything like that before. I would have thought the job should have been done by Lunar themselves.
To my amazement and shock, they have made a hole in each of the side walls - is this normal? Surely it damages the integrity of the caravan's sides, not to mention devaluing the caravan. In addition, there is a gap between the cutout of the interior wall board and the seal of the window, in one corner, and the window blinds don't open and close easily any more.
Does anyone have any similar experiences? If so, what do you recommend my course of action should be?

Hello Baspegpet

Its actually unusual for caravan manufacturers to get directly involved with the repairs to a caravan. Its usually the dealers workshops that carry out the work.

If you think about it, the point in as caravan production line where the panels would normally be fitted, you probably couldn't take a whole caravan back into the line to repair it.

As for the method used by the dealer, it sounds dodgy. I suggest you query it with them quite vigorously, and ask for them to get the method inspected by the caravan manufacture. It sounds as though they may have made the job a lot bigger.

I had to have a new front and rear panel in years 2 and 3 respectively on our Bailey S 5 and the work was carried out by the supplying dealer. From memory each replacemnt took about a week as I did a quick calf of labour charges if I had being paying the bill myself! However the work was carried out very well all windows and blinds just like the van when new and front locker door fitted better than new. I would take your concerns back to the dealer and if necessary ask Lunar to inspect the van with you present.

Thanks for your input. Have since been to another Lunar caravan dealer and explained the problems and, like you, advised me to get back to the dealer and let them know that I am dissatisfied with the job.
This I have now done. The manager was very apologetic, apparently the guy who did the repair screwed too far into the wooden strut so that the screw point pierced the wall skin In two places on the near side of the caravan and he covered the pinhead holes (which are very close together) with a plastic plug. To even things up, he put a plug on the other off side of the van!
the manager has assured me that they will repair the holes and that it will be watertight. Let's wait and see.
