Can anyone advise how and where to check my water pump which is not working? I do not want to have to buy a complete new unit and I do not have the instructions for it. The make is Carver Crystal Water Pump and it's a Spey model. Thanks

All you can do really is to put 12 volts across the terminals on the pump plug or the terminals if iys an older type with no plug

Sometimes the crimp on the cable connectors inside the plug refuse to pass current because they are tinned(soldered) before crimping and the solder oxidises

I have found with a few Whale fitting pumps that soldering direct is a cure or even stripping the wire and recrimping would do

Water pumps as always difficult to repair especially if the motor has dried up and burnt out. Make sure the terminals are clean with emery cloth and contact cleaner.

Also make sure you also clean the terminals in the socket in the van. The Carver ones are a bit fragile and it is worth looking behind the socket to ensure one of the pins hasn't pushed back a bit.

Ricky,

When you say your water pump doesn't work, do you mean there is no apparent noise from the pump (mine is clearly audible when the window is open), or there is no water coming from the taps.

If it the later, it could be what happend to our 'van, in that the non-retuen valve in the water heater was faulty and so I got the noise from the pump but no water out of the taps.

Just an idea.

I think most water pumps are sealed units which are not able to be fixed these days. So it may be a replacement is required

Thanks for your advice. The caravan is quite old and when we bought it the seller told us that the water pump was not working. To be honest with you i haven't even tried it as i'm not sure what to do or how these things work anyway! I've tried to remove the pump but as i'm not electrically or mechanically minded i'm a bit concerned that i may cause more problems. I will probably just have to book it into a caravan dealer for repair. Thanks for your comments.
