Hi, the water in our Bailey Ranger is undrinkable, even boiled as it has a distinct 'rubber' taste to it. We never had this problem with our old Compass van. The Compass while ancient (1993) had been a high spec van when new and the water system had a water filter built in. The Ranger being a bargain basement van does not. Does anyone know if it is possible to fit an after market filter in the water system in the Ranger, or even suggest alternatives? We never drink water that has gone through the caravan straight, but it in our old van we used it for tea/coffee and cooking. We have miltoned the system so I am confident the taste is not due to microbes.

Hi. We have a Bailey Pageant which was originally fitted with a Whale Aquasource on the cold supply at the sink. Since it costs around 24 quid to renew the filter, I changed to a Filtapac Aquaflo where the filter medium alone needs to renewed. At the same time I fitted another one on the cold supply on the bathroom handbasin. It would be comparatively simple job for you to fit a similar filter under your sink. Google "Filtapac" and see what they have.

our bailey has a filter in line to the kitchen cold water supply only.

I don't think a filter is the answer to your problem. Before you lumber your self with one, why not try a water sample via a filter jug?

If this solves your problem, then ok fit a filter.

Just to eliminate it, otherwise your water pipes are suspect?

Although i have no idea what is the cause of the rubber taste is, have you tried a different water pump?

Hello William,

although many peopel prefer not to use water delivered through the caravan pipework for drinks and cooking, many do with no problems.

If you are getting a taste, then something has gone wrong, and the solution is to repair or replace the faulty bits of the system to elminate the cause of the taste.

A filter may have some effect, but they generally deal with visible particulates and to a much lesser extent taste issues.

Filters are normally fitted at the inlet to the caravan, so if any of the internal pipe work is causing the problem the filter would have no effect at all.

Hi William

You don't say what year your Bailey Ranger is but ours is 2006. Ever since new the water tasted revolting - something like tcp. Bailey caravans are well aware of this problem which was caused by a stock of faulty piping - therefore a water filter is unlikey to solve your problem.

Because our van was under warranty, Bailey agreed our dealer could replace the water pipes but because of difficulty of access we agreed with our dealer that they would only replace the cold water ones. They did this and fitted a couple of extra non return valves so that water from the hot pipes didn't contaminate the new cold ones. The result was much improved from before but still not very nice to my mind. We now use a separate water container for all our drinking and cooking water and just use the 'mains' water for washing and washing up which suits us ok.

If your van is less than 3 years old, I suggest you speak to your dealer. We have a 460/2 but if yours is a different layout it might be possible to replace both the hot and cold without too much trouble.

Good luck!
