Water tanks

We use ours when we are abroad in the summer to keep the water cooler than it stays in an Aquaroll, also in the winter when there is a chance of the Aquaroll freezing. It is also handy to fill the tank and have an Aquaroll outside so that at a flick of a switch we can change from one to the other.

I am sure others will have other ideas though.

Alan others may have different ideas but I totally agree with your appraisal

It is also handy to have a small amount of water in the tank for travelling especially if doing the trip to Spain etc

Its a boon when arriving on site to have water available if its pouring with rain

Just like this year !!

Must agree with all the replies you have received, another reason is the amount of available water when on site, onboard tank plus aquaroll very handy if it is a wet day.

I added an onboard tank last winter so that water was avaiable when "on the move" going abroad. Thanks again to Watson(JohnG), who has already replied to your question for his help and generosity.

I'm very interested with retro fitting an on board tank.

What make?

Where from?

How was it plumbed in?

Your assistance is most needed.

Thanks

Al

Hi Brian

Glad that you were able to make use of the tank etc

I have fitted tanks to my own vans since 1990

Its easier to fit the tank inside which I have done on my present van but any leaks don't just drip onto the floor as can be imagined so its got to be right!!

The tank is out of the frost and elements but takes up a lot of room

Since changing the Bailey I have fitted the Fiamma 75 litre tank into the bed locker in the Ace

Basically what I do is to remove the van pipe from the inlet to the taps and connect it to a new inboard pump to feed the taps from the tank outlet using the existing pump wiring from the taps/pressure switch

The old van inlet then goes to fill the tank

Its then possible to fit switches/wiring to pump water using the old submersible pump to fill the tank from outside/inside the van and level lights/gauges are available

CAK tanks have all the fittings and expertise

www.caktanks.com

This is supplied from the outlet

Hi Big Al, my onboard tank is fitted behind axle below caravan floor. Look at (google- CAK Tanks catalogue page 16 item code WWTAKMTK)to show fitting position, water is supplied from outside Aquaroll and submersible pump, then switch to inline pump to use onboard system. This reply is just to give you an idea of my last year winter project which was well worth the effort.

I am seriously thinking of fitting an on-board tank.

Hi Mags&Alan

I've only had an onboard tank for the last 18 months or so, and would never be without one again:

- An Aquaroll + onboard tank means you fill up when YOU want to

- Never run out unexpectedly

- Plenty of water for the shower (80 litres or more on tap, great!)

- No freezing

- Option to use Aquaroll alone on short or overnight stops, most systems allow you to switch between onboard and Aquaroll pumps (isolating the onboard tank). If retofitting, make sure you fit an isolating valve for this purpose.

BUT - best not to travel with water in the tank (or the hot water tank): one litre of water = 1kg of weight. All too easy to go over those all important and safe weight limits. If the tank is to the front or back of the van then DO NOT travel with water in the tank, either you will increase the nose weight or increase the chance of severe snaking (the rear pendulum effect), both are unnecessary risks.

Alan

To Watson(JohnG),Hi John, followed your set up and found it quite similar to my own although I don't have an onboard tank gauge (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full), I don't find this necessary as my onboard tank is very shallow due to my alteration which has been a complete success. Thank you again for your generosity and help.
