What a performance

Bought my Ace Firestar back in October 08,had a few niggles which were put right by the dealer within 2 weeks.

One of the problems was every time we towed the van the front of the Truma gas fire jumped off its fixings which to us was not satisfactory, my dealer said no problem they no about the problem we just put a screw in the centre to hold it in place.

I was bit sceptical but thought well it will fix the problem, sure enough no problems from that time on.

Today went through checking all the systems before we go for a long weekend in a couple of weeks time, came to check the Truma on gas no ignition, manual says on automatic ignition check the battery, yep what a performance to change the battery, remove the screw between the vents at the top, release the springs and remove the front, replace battery so good so far.

Now reassemble, all ok until you need to replace the dam screw the dealer fitted, good job l was an engineer with a magnetic Phillips long reach screw driver, even so took all of 40 minute s to change a bloody battery, you may say nit picking but imagine if this was when you had just got to site with the darkness approaching no fun l can assure you, Truma have been making fires for the caravan industry for years why o why can't they place the battery within easy reach, rant over

Well they have, your issue is the "bodged" job the dealer made by fitting a screw rather than sorting out the spring clips at the base of the front. If the front is not put on and taken off correctly these can get bent and need straightening.

It may be worthwhile getting your wheels balanced. This can cause the front to jump off.

I was thinking the same thing as Mike especially if the fires forward of the axle? but either way it's not Truma's fault.

Putting extra screws in is a work around, it's not addressing the cause and solving that.

As you've now found, work arounds more often than not, solve one problem by creating another?!

I find some fronts are loose and bending the spring clips into the correct position cures it every time, when fitted correctly it's held very firmly and should not come off.

Another related installation fault is the two spring holders are also a pair of the screw fixing points for the rear case, the screws used are often ill fitted or have oversized heads, this prevents the fire front going far enough back for the spring to come fully up and lock the front in place.

As far as bent springs are concerned, the problem is no one seems to take five minutes to find out just what shape the spring clips should be, if they did it's a minutes job then to reshape them and cure the problem, that's surely far quicker than drilling holes and putting more screws in?!
