What a rip off!

Have just had a lovely few days at a rally near Weston super Mare with our CC centre. Our rally secretary arranged a fee of £13 a night including a hook up. Two weeks before the site owner told us the site fee excluded EHU and wanted £3 a night extra. His view was that if we didn't like it we could go elsewhere. We managed to get it at £2.50. 17 outfits turned up. We were told 10 amps were available. First morning no power! I had on the truma heater on 1000watts and the boiler, 750 watts so couldnt believe it was me. I was right. It turned out that we really only had a little over 3 amps each. It was OK during the day when most folks were out but at 8 a.m. when everyone put the heater on we all had no power. Day 2 the same, Day 3 the same. We could have gone to the CCC site nearby for a little over £13 and got 16 amps each. Won't go there again and I suspect tha rally officers club will spread the word. The good side was that the field had good views and was very quiet.

Hello Waffler,

Put quite simply the site owner is in breach of contract.

Once a price has been agreed, even verbally it is as much a contract as even it had been written.

The failure to supply the service (EHU) you have paid for is also a breach of contract.

If the arrangements were set up through your group secretary, then they should seek compensation for the failure to perform to contract.

Pity you can't name and shame! Although John is correct I guess everything was verbal which makes it more difficult to prove. The best way to go about it would for example be to highlight any issues to Health & Safety if there were any. If he took cash, notify the tax man. Caravans too close, notify council etc. Many ways to skin a cat and make life difficult for the site owner.
