We still continue the tradition of a Leicesthire breakfast at Christmas, although this year as we are all going out for lunch we will be going "lite" on Christmas Day given lunch will be at 1230, whereas if eating lunch at home it can be around 1515 after the Monarchs speech. So the main breakfast meal will be Boxing Day.
For those not in the know a Leicestershire Christmas breakfast seems to have stemmed from the need for sustenance when out hunting. As kids we used to follow the hunt on Boxing Day, full to the brim with food. The breakfast consists of a Melton Mowbray pork pie as the central item, accompanied by various meats, smoked fish, Stilton and cheeses, pickles and chutneys, breads and drinks various. Whilst not a part of the meal, a bottle of Gaviscon Advanced comes in handy
