Any comments greatly appreciated,I,ve recently had a hernia op and we are due to go away on Sat for 2 wks, hitching up not a problem as the owner where i store the van will sort that out.I,ve rung the site they will pitch my van for me but the porch awning could be a problem do you think i would get any help to sort this out if i asked fellow vanners on the site ?

One of my friends has offered to do it but it would be a round trip of 350 miles for him!

What do you reckon?

If you are staying on one of the Club sites. or a commercial one for that matter, I am sure a polite request to the warden would solicit a helpsful response. Years ago if my memory serves me right, the Caravan Club operated a Helping Hands scheme, if requested they provided a "sticker" showing two hands, clasped as in a handshake, which you displayed in your car/caravan window on arrival on site, the idea being fellow caravanners seeing this sticker would rally round to help, but I haven't seen any for a few years now.

Well in that case Gary instruct your wife on how to do it. You could show her how to do it step by step as you sup a bottle.

Admittedly though, not all females know how to follow orders.

Hi Gary

I hope you are getting on OK after your hernia op. I had one last year.

If you are going to be driving,(I assume you are or is that being sexist ?) you must be able to do an emergency stop if you are to satisfy your insurance comany. I was advised I'd be OK after two weeks.

However, three days after my op, and I'm certainly not advocatiing this, I was at a Scout camp and whilst I wasn't pitching any tents I did knock in a few pegs. I found that I could do most things without any problem so long as I just took my time although I wasn't daft enough to do any lifting or pulling. With this experience in mind you may not find it much of a problem with the porch awning especially with a bit of help from wardens / fellow campers. It is this sort of problem that brings people together. To be honest, I found that gentle moving about and doing things was better than sitting still.

Hello Gary

Im sure someone on the site would put the porch awning up for you,as there are plenty of good samaritans about amongst caravanners, just got to ask.If you were pitched next to me,I would put it up for you no problem.

If you support Leeds though, it might cost you a can or two, otherwise a freebie!!!!

Cheers Richard
