What Qualifications Do You Need to be a Warden??

I'm assuming a degree in grumpiness!!!

We've just come back from a site near Birmingham (we were showing our dog at Crufts at the NEC) - the site was full of like minded people with anything from one to eight dogs per pitch; I was somewhat amazed yesterday when one of the Wardens growled at me that dogs couldn't be walked on site ..... I wonder why they didn't mention this BEFORE they took our money!!

Before you inundate me with cries of "not all Wardens are grumpy" - I know, most of them are lovely, helpful and friendly people, there is just the "odd" one who makes the Gastapo look like a Butlins Holiday Camp!!

Julie and Stuart,

I am assuming you are referring to a Caravan Club site.

I suspect that with so many dogs on site some caravanners were not cleaning up after their dogs.

A couple of years ago i was staying on a C.C.site and there was a dog show on nearby. The site was full of dogs and the warden, who is a friend of ours, had terrible problems with dog dirt on site.

Two couples informed him that their dogs were show dogs and could not use the dog walk or be taken out of the site as the dogs would get dirty!!!

I know this is no excuse for wardens to growl at you. However if this warden was fed up of picking up the dog dirt, as my friend was, then being a human being he had possibly reached the end of his tether. He could have had caravanners going into the office complaining, not just non dog owners but also as often happens responsible dog owners.

I have no intention of starting up this subject again, just stating the facts of what can happen in this type of situation, having been on a site and seen it for myself.

I would add i am a dog owner.

I have two dogs who are NOT walked around the site but in fields where allowed or the designated dog walk. They do get dirty in the wet but I suppose as working Springers a Crufts Judge may be impressed! LOL.

I too have sympathy with the Wardens and indeed their efforts to keep the site poo free for everyone.

Barking off this post before I get my paws wrapped by Mr Mods D.

Cheers

maybe he was a cousin of the late, great "Hector Nichol" the scots comedian. he once said he got on a bus to go to dumbarton and all the seats were taken apart from an old lady and her four legged friend sitting next to her. he asked her politely what type of dog it was and she replied " it's a whippet". hector then retorted "then would ye min whippen it out of there an i can sit down".

it doesn't matter if you walk your dog in fields, on a club site dog walk, or just around the site. it all boils down to picking up the "mess" should the dog do it. thats it. end of. the wardens have enough to do. if they were out picking up dog mess (and i should say cat mess because they do it too) they wouldn't have time to practice their fine art of being grumpy, ha ha, only joking............or am i ?

The site you are referring to has no dog walk and it says so in the handbook. Therefore the dog has to go off site. I don't know which warden it was but we use the site often and always find them there excellent in all respects. By the way we are dog owners and the lane outside is pretty quiet. (That's where the dog bins are.) Other forum users should not be put off this excellent site. Best to avoid it during Crufts though.

we went to Top Lodge CC site this weeekend reversed van on to pitch with peg to offside corner and warden turned up said can you move it so peg is in center of van.Said to him how was i supposed to guess that,he said I told your wife when she booked in.She said redfaced oh I forgot to tell you that,so moved van over.It was his first day in charge there bet he wondered what he'd let himself in for.Incidentally why dont they move pegs over by 3'6" ish so you have a marker to aim for.Ive got a camera but its a lot easier to see peg as you reverse back at the corner instead of guessing or lifting the peg out and refixing as I saw others do.
