Many years ago I got caught out at Ullapool with a failed external submersible water pump. Thereafter I always carried a spare until we changed to an internal pump.
The toilet mechanism also failed, the slide mechanism. Two spares on board . One came in useful at last year's Woosiefest :cheer:
A can of WD40 and a can of electrical contact spray plus the obligatory silicone spray.

Are you aware of what WD40 can do for arthritis, its good stuff I know I tried it. Its not just for freeing up mechanical things.

Spare business card of the local caravan engineer. I know we might get some stick for not knowing how to do the simplest of repairs; but my motto is "embrace your limitations ". Also in our family DIY apparently stands for Destroy it Yourself. So we actually save money in the long run by getting someone who knows what they are doing to do it in the first place.

Dont really carry any spares, a credit or debit card is just as good B)

I carry more cards than anything. We have couple of credit Cards, two debit cards, caravan club card, Camping and caravan club card, breakdown services card, Tesco card, Sainsbury Card, National trust card, English heritage card. Go Outdoors discount card. Costco card. Must be whats doing my noseweight.

I do carry a torque wrench, multimeter and a cut down toolkit with tools suitable for a caravan. I carry a lump hammer for the pegs, no point in being girly with a toffee hammer or rubber mallet. Some PTFE thread tape, jubilee clips and cable ties. Oh yeah, spare bottle opener, spare pint glass, spare beer, some spare beer in case the other spare beer gets drunk. I carry a few extra awning rubbers and that pretty much is it.

In reality not a lot in the spares line only a pump, selection of fuses, new 900w kettle (Aldi had them in the other week) :p , New 13pin plug with wiring diagram, breakaway cable, brake light & indicator bulbs....

But loads of tools ... :eek:hmy: :p

Very few 'genuine' spares but plenty of "bodgit bits & pieces", and plenty of tools to 'bodgit' with! -- oh! and forgot about meters!

All the previous, plus, 1 meter of water pipeing and push adapters, and a spare power unit. These are all the items which at some time in the past have broken or bust on us.

As with most, couple of blades for Woosie pot (now) just got myself the water pump, (thanks Sir Gabs), couple of "O" rings for the pump, got two torvek ball valves for service pitch, last one packed up at WOOSIE fest at Wheathill.
Which brings me to think as most things pack up at a Woosie fest what will go wrong this year. :(

Ps Think I will bring a spare caravan :silly:  :silly:

I like a single malt for me and gin and tonic for my wife. Apart from that there are spare towing mirrors and some fuses. The towing mirrors might seem odd but we did have one break when setting up to leave a site which would have prevented us leaving if I had not had one spare.

There arent many I havent tired

My preference would be one of the ramaining bottles of Port Ellen. But can I afford it....? Not a chance. Currently starring at around £600 for the cheapest variant. Only time I ever get near to it as at a mates house. How the other half live.

The most expensive I have seen is a 1981 Islay Festival Port Ellen at £5000. It would break my heart to take the cork out of that.

What an honest post ;) and something that some contributors should remember that not all caravan here have the skills or even necessarily want to do all their own maintenance or repairs.

yes that is very true, Prof, but on the other hand there are also caravanners who are trying to keep their hobby, as manageable as possible, not everyone who caravans has either a large pay check or substantial pension to pay the going rates for the professionals to do it. if this was true it would soon become a very exclusive pastime,
one has to accommodate both or the practical gets lost in caravan ownership.

Whilst Mel and Prof are being honest it is a fact when you are miles away from a dealer or mobile engineer eg the North West Highlands, you will inevitably need some tools and spares , just in case.

Sadly caravans are very complex pieces of kit requiring multi disciplines to fix.
His Royal Woosieness spares and toolkit are legendary ( with help from Aldi :p ) Ladders and crowbars ....... :woohoo:

It's a shame we are not allowed to tow a small trailer behind the caravan to carry all the spares, that we, MIGHT, need or someone else might need. Then what would happen when we need to reverse somewhere.

When you come to the Woosiefest, our mighty King will demonstrate how to carry enough equipment to rebuild, never mind repair an entire Caravan. Prepare to be impressed..
