hi.. we are thinking of travelling to vendee next year as our main summer holiday.. as anyone on here got any suggestions of any goods campsites.. we would prefer sites that have a pool and are preferably near the sea.. there would be 3 families, all towing caravans with kids ranging from 2yrs to 11 yrs so sites need to cater for kids.. we have only toured overseas once before and that was eurodisney last xmas..

any help and advice would be appreciated on any sites that match our needs

thanks in advance daz

Just got back from La Garangoire (I think that's how you spell it!) in St Julien d'landes. It's about a 15/20 min drive to the beach but the site itself is great.

Hi Darrell

If you get hold of the Eurocamp independant brochure, there is an excellent site in La Tranche called camping Bel. It has everything you need--designed around young children, nice swimming pool and childrens play area, very clean, very good bar/takeaway, very friendly staff, fully serviced pitches and very close to the beach. The nearby town of La Tranche (approx 10 mins walk) has good shops and eating places and there is a large supermarket very close to the site. All in all an excellent site and pretty straightforward to get to. We got the Portsmouth to Caen overnight ferry and travelled via Rennes and Nantes on toll free motor ways (approx 300 miles). The journey was excellent, driving on well maintained and quiet roads, nothing like the U.K motorways we are all accustomed to. It was our first venture with the caravan abroad and due to this excellent experience, we intend spending more of our holidays in this very caravan friendly country. By the way, the weather in this area is another bonus. The temperature during the day in July/August is around the 90 degree mark, while evening temperatures are warm but comfortable. Hope this helps. Glenn
