Hi, still more teething problems, sorry folks, I need to locate the drain plug on my carver caskade water heater, do I remove the insulation jacket to find it or do I go under the caravan?

It will in part depend upon tha age of the van.On older vans there is a 'screw plug' in the bottome left corner of the unit outside. On newer vans it is a lift up tap arrangement that will be in the pipe run close to the heater under the bed locker and it drains below the van.You will not need to remove insulation etc.

Yes, don't dismantle anything!

If it's the old type of heater, long and narrow with a polystyrene jacket, you will find the drain outside next to the water inlet. Plastic if I remember correctly, just use a wide screwdriver to remove it. These drain plugs often break or don't reseal well again, spares are plentiful though. If you have the more modern heater which is like a short fat cylinder on its flat side, there will be a yellow lever close by. Lift that lever into the centre position to drain, let it drop horizontal to seal.

Plotter & Lol, thanks yes it is outside just as you say beside water inlet. I would never have found that in a million years! It has been drained for winter storage, do I need to clean the system with anything before reusing?

laureeen,

After standing fo rthe winter, a sterilisation of the whole water system is a good idea.

Use a mix of Milton, as per instructions on bottle, leave in the pipework for 12 hours if possible, then drain and flush with at least 40 litres of clean water.

If you have a water filter, remove it first, and replace with a new one after flushing the system after sterilising it.
