Which Kettle???

Just looking at getting a new kettle for my caravan, has anyone got any advise on a low energy lightweight kettle.

Quite like the look of the eco kettles.

Must be cordless.

We use an eco friendly kettle that my dad bought for camping trips over 40 years ago. It works at roadside stops with no electric, it sits on the gas hob and its faster than those new fangled electric jobs. I'm sure it will see me off, so it must be an eco warriors dream, and of course as it all Alli it will probably be reborn as another kettle

We too are using an eco kettle that sits on the gas. It's 27 years old, has travelled thousands of miles with us and we wouldn't ever replace it for an electric kettle.

I had a funny feeling I was going to get a few posts about camping kettles.

I may even buy one of these is there seems to be a bit of a trend.

Hi

In the interests of fuel efficiency:-

An electric kettle is about as efficient converter of power to usable heat as you can get. The type that has the element coil in the water container put all the heat into the water.

Compared to a gas kettle, you get quite a lot of heat wasted as it comes up the side of the kettle.

But don't go out and buy an electric kettle yet - NO if you consider the efficiency of the power generators, they at best can only reach about 40% so 60% of the gas or coal is wasted up the cooling towers etc.

Stick with a gas kettle, but keep the flame small enough to stay under the bottom, your probably doing better over all than the electric.

Just been on the towsure website and they have a "rapidboil" gas kettle with copper bottom for just over 20 squid.

Seems quite good to me. The faster the boil the less gas used.

Personally we are not keen on the "carvan" low wattage kettles.

We have a Tefal 1 litre one purchase in a French supermarket.

It takes 1200 watts at our 240 volts so it current rating is 5 Amps. This is fine even on Continental 6 Amp supplies along with the fridge, providing your not running any other major items.

It boils somewhat quicker just enough for a tea pot and is a better bit of kit quality wise that those we have seen targeted at caravanners.

I've just been told that our kettle was bought in 1966 at around Easter time.

Still looks as good as new and the whistle still works as well.

7 shillings and six pence my brother reckons, 37.5p ???
