Well I'm about to throw a pebble into the pond and wait for the ripples. I have a Series 5 Senator Indiana mtplm 1500kg.I have a Omega 2.2 petrol saloon, kerb wt 1612kg. I am thinking of going 4x4 for the extra weight. What to choose Range Rover 2.5 or Kia Sorento? Don't like the rest axcept the XC90 but can't afford one. Well gentlemen comments please.

We started to look for a replacement for our trusty 2.2DTI Frontera over a year ago, as the Fronty has been such a reliable and trusty tow car it has been no mean feat. Only now have we finally found a trusty replacemen, having looked at nearly all the 4x4's on the market.

The Range Rover P38 2.5 diesel was strong candidate and after searching dealers for a low mileage example, we finnally found one on the south coast , so off we went for a test drive , and being confident that we had found the replacement. Arrived at the dealers and looked at the vehicle and it definatley was a class car. Time for the test drive, what a dissapointment, I had read that the 2.5 was underpowered but I wasnt prepared for how underpowered it was, plus the autobox seemed to be over sensative and on the dual carriageway the least little touch of the throtle and it would kick down. If you can live with the lack of power remeber that the servicing of the Range overe is all important and you need to find a good example which has been serviced WITHIN

Sorry pushed the wrong key. Make sure it has been serviced regularly by a Range Rover Specialist. These are complex cars which need the correct maintanence.

We also looked at the Sorento XS which for us was far superior to the 2.5 range Rover, plenty of kit and a strong engine for a very good price, however there were several minor points which for us excluded the Sorento. Have you looked at the Jeeps, we finnaly settled for a 3.0CRD Grand Cherokee, plenty of torque, V6 diesel, and all the toys we need. There are are also some great bargains on Cherokees out there if you search around. We have seen pregistered Cherokee diesels from

Andrew,

As I am considering a Sorento for towing (up to 1600kg MTPLM), I would appreciate any information you have on fuel consumption with your Sorento (solo and towing). Thanks!
