Any other brave people spending Christmas in the caravan this year?

We're heading off on Thursday - 10 nights at Sandringham CC site, we haven't had only a dusting of snow, and non forecast for tomorrow, so fingers crossed, apart from a bit of untreated road outside the house - all should be OK!

Our caravan is snow bound in the garden and since our Disco 4 repeatedly died we've no tow car until new year

but caravan will be used by son and his girlfriend over the holiday period.
Winter and snow caravanning we've no problem with. Christmas in the Caravan

NO WAY, idea of hell, apart from taking the dogs across the fields we don't really go out from Christmas Eve until New Year. Big log fires, mainly open house and loads of friends and family round to eat, drink and be merry.

This will be our third Christmas & new year in our van, as we're fulltimers.
Woke up at 5am by our chocolate Lab who wanted to go and play in the snow. We've got 10cm presently here in Herefordshire. Not fussed though, because we have enough food to last til middle of next week. Did a full blown Turkey and all the trimmings in our van last year to feed 5. The van is warm cosy and well stocked with DVD's to avoid the usual array of repeats of the films and crimbo specials that get dusted off every year. Will venture out into the awning later to push the snow off the roof from the inside with my trusty soft broom.
Just hope 7th Jan is going to be snow free this time. We had to cope with moving the van in 18cm of snow this year. it was a long hard day as we had to dig out of one site and dig into the new one. My son is a very handy snow shoveller, he dug out a 20ft X 20ft pitch for our van & awning.

This will be our fifth Xmas and/or New Year away - I would much rather be doing what we are doing, than sitting at home watching TV and stuffing our faces full of food and drink that we don't need, and entertaining people we don't like!! ETTO!!

To eat drink and be merry you don't have to do either to excess
smiley-smile.gif
we don't entertain anyone that we don't like or want in our home.
We just like to get close family and friends together and have a catch up.

Don't know where dusty is, snow bound here in south east. We have family trying to get back to Devon by road solo from Dover. Not doing well. Family in Tiverton, Torbay and Cornwall going nowhere at present. Mondday might be a little ambitious for towing to Cornwall.

We're off Christmas Eve for 5 nights with two other 'vanners to a site just outside Scarborough. All in our awning for Christmas dinner (it's the biggest) and a couple of heaters to keep us warm. Boxing day on the beach with the dogs to run off the day's before excess!!

Hope the roads up there are ok - anyone have any news on this? Got all the goodies ready.
Our first time away on the van at this time of year now the kids have left home so we are really looking forward to it.

Will do Kevin. Mum's near Bideford and is snowed up. Yesterday we had another blizzard at Cricklade. I'll be checking all the main roads later today.
Hapy Christmas .

Have a great time all those who are going or who are already there. I could put up with the snow to a point (if it isn't too deep) if already on site but with the uncertainty of travelling either way due to the road conditions it's not for me
smiley-frown.gif
To even attempt to get the van off the drive would be suicidal let alone driving down the ice bound road. The van would try and overtake the car
smiley-laughing.gif
Kids I've never seen before were sliding down the road on boards yesterday which doesn't help.
Usually our season goes from March until November. Already booked for March and I can't wait
smiley-smile.gif

We've also got 3 weeks booked for May but nowhere for April yet.

Anyway, wherever you are have a great Christmas all

We were going away for New Year but looks like that'll be off now after getting stranded in November. LOL!

Safe journeys to anyone who braves it.

We had planned to be away for Christmas as usual from the 23rd -31st but our chosen campsite for this year phoned to say they were closing because all the water points were frozen and they couldn't guarentee that the shower block wouldn't be far behing. We tried booking elsewhere but those sites within about 100 miles that were remaining open seemed to be fully booked.

At least the site had the comon courtesy to telephone you Mrs M although it's a shame that you couldn't book for another site.
Lada on This topic wasn't so lucky.

I know how disappointed you must have felt MrsMothy - although there is a moderator who thinks you can forego your 100% deposit and just drive to any other site at this time of year and expect availability.
As Parksy said, at least they had the decency to tell you they were unable to offer what you booked for and closed instead, unlike our chosen venue.
Not to worry though - only 362 days to wait tilll we try again?? lol
A good new year to you and yours
ATB, LADA
