Took my van to the dealers Friday ready for my mover to be swapped to my new van this week, not costing me anything has it was part of the trade in. My dealer on the other had has told me from the first of October the NCC has issued a statement telling dealers any movers transferred from this date to new vans will have to have new wiring and new rollers fitted otherwise they will remove their licence from the dealership has qualified installers. Another body blow to the customer, rip off Britain springs to mind these people must sit in their ivory towers trying to think of new ways of killing the Industry that feeds them. Has an engineer for 45 years before l retired if we move any equipment from one to the other it was inspected fit for purpose and only if it wasn't would we renew. My dealer is honouring my deal with them has l agreed the deal on the 1st of September so he will stand the cost. In times like these common sense should prevail, trust the technician to decide if new parts are required and show the customer the evidence not some bureaucrat deciding things for customer which in the end is a money spinner for the mover manufacturers. Any one agree or disagree what’s PC take on this

I agree as we had our mover swapped from our old caravan to the new caravan last week. This reminds me of the scenario last year where the NCC decided that all caravans had to have thier electrics certified before they could facilities and that this had to be done every three years. They even got a number of engineers to attend a course shich cost quite a lot of money promising huge rewards. A number of us queried the certification and they refuse to answer questions.
The NCC have NO powers whatsoever and can only pass recommendations. They cannot remove any one's licence to operate although they can prevent the use of "NCC Approved workshop". Past experience has shown most of us that the words "NCC Approved Workshop" are meaningless as you still get the same poor service and hassles. If you contact the NCC with a complaint you never hear back from but if you do, it is a fob off letter! The NCC or Noddys Caravan Club have only their own interests and a fat pay check at heart!

Whoever told you that you need new wiring and rollers is lying, simple as that.
Whoever told you that the NCC can remove the "qualified Installers" bit is , wait for it,,,,,,,,,,,lying.

The "advice" issued by the NCC is (at the moment) that NEW movers being fitted must comply with 17th Edition regulations regarding the location of the main fuse for the mover (ie, it must not be in the Battery Box).
The new "advice" does NOT affect previously fitted movers.

All in all, your "Dealer" is talking out of his ass.

Late footnote:
This is the actual text from the AWS Manager relating to Movers and COP305 as advised to ALL AWS workshops:
"CoP 305 only relates to the fitment of NEW caravan movers from 1st October 2011, you are correct, it does not apply to fitting second hand movers or swopping from one van to another."

l take your point but l have no reason to suspect the person that told me would lie as he had no reason too. l will wait to see if anyone reports on this forum that they have had problems changing their mover to another van by dealerships having to replace rollers and replace the wiring.

As in an earlier post, no issues last week when they changed over the motor mover.

Just to concurr with the footnote in Damians post ~ I can state that we had a 2nd hand mover installed in October by a reputable dealers with no problems at all.

I think this is a misinterpretation of the new regs, this happened in 2004 when the gas regulators changed from bottle mounted to bulkhead?
Part of this was the 'pig tail' connection hoses, due to the much higher pressures, jubilee clips were no longer suitable and banned on this high pressure hose.
A few dealers and individual traders applied this to older vans and removed the jubilee clips from low pressure hose connections simply saying 'they are now banned'
I found this out when several concerned people rang me asking what they should now use? after telling them to refit the clips, for safety I then felt obliged to ring their dealers and explain the new regulations were not retrospective!

I fail to see how any "misinterpretation" can be read into the above, which is what all AWS workshops were issued with.

If you've caravanned a long time you'd understand just how easily caravan dealers can misinterpret or misunderstand just about anything.

If it is a second hand mover from the old caravan to the new then no issue and they do not have to say anything
