The question may have been asked before and answered? If so please forgive me. However, it would be good to know.

This may seem a daft question but over the weekend whilst towing we got onto the discussion of caravans as you do! My husbands asked the question why are caravans always white or cream?

I came up with my own theory, production costs etc., but he then said well "cars don't just come in one colour do they?" again the conversation goes round again!! (it was a long journey!!!) LOL

So if anybody can give me another reason or definitive answer I would be grateful.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks

Di

They are White because during a long Hot Summer they reflect the Sunlight making the Caravan feel Cooler.

I bet you think that may be a little " tounge in cheek "

Dear All

Another reason is dealers. If there are two or three colours, there will always be one which is not very popular and dealers worry about getting stuck with the bad colours.

Dethleffs launched a motorhome a few years back called the Globebus which was available in dark blue, dark green, white and red. After two years, there were no blue or white ones at the dealers, one red model and about a dozen green ones. From a dealer's point of view, they don't even like stocking a caravan with the optional upholstery in case no one likes it, let alone one in a weird colour,

Cheers

Many of the vans when i first started (1960's) were other than white, although from memory this was the side panels not the roof. Sprite vans were a light green with light grey contrast and to my mind looked very well.

Most side panels are made from pre-painted sheet material by specialist companies, not by the caravan maker. To have alternative colours would undoubtedly increase the cost, as the production runs would have to be changed more often, and someone would have to guess what the forthcoming fashion colour would be. If you've ever had to wait for a replacement body panel you'll know how long this can take and offering a choice of colour would make this a lot worse.

(I could also go male chauvanist and suggest that adding choice of colour to all the other options would add considerably to the time and "domestic debate" about which van to buy, but i'd better not).
