Hi, we stayed at this site before coming to live in the Wincanton area.
Avoid towing through the town if you can. If coming west on A 303 leave before main wincanton exit - follow brown signs to racecourse. If coming from north go via Bruton - pretty narrow but not as bad as Wincanton. Site itself is high on hill over town and pretty quiet. The nearest big supermarket is Morrisons just on the main A303 / Wincanton junction. There is an excellent real butcher and deli in Bruton "Bill the Butcher"
Pleanty to see and do. Stourhead and Barrington National Trust, Gants Mill Gardens in bruton, Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford just west on A 303, Fleet Air Arm museum - really good if you're into aircraft - just west beyond Sparkford.
Sherborne has beautiful abbey and upmarket small shops - plenty of parking at reasonable rate.
Bit further you can get to stonehenge etc or longleat.
I think site has been upgrades since we stayed there. Toilet block is part of racecourse complex and was not quite as good as main CC sites are now, but perfectly useable. Wincanton has some not bad pubs, takeaways etc and a good "antiques" centre - Green Dragon.
Plenty of good walks. Go to South Cadbury and walk up the castle - an iron age fort - the original Camelot. Give us a wave when you get to the top - we can see this from our front door !
Have a great holiday.
