Winter Wheels/ Axle Stands?

I was thinking of removing the wheels and tyres from the caravan so as to reduce detrioration and fitting some winter wheels this winter. However my insurance comanty policy states that a wheel clamp should be used if caravan left over two hours! Would have thought it easier to steal a caravan with wheels on than off but there you go.
Other option is to raise caravan onto axle stands taking weight off wheels and cover wheels up (with a clamp on of course)
Are there any draw backs doing this?

I suppose the insurance company reckon it is easy for some toe rag to fit proper wheels and to tow the caravan away.

I have winter wheels, but once they are on the van they are locked and so also act as a wheel clamp. Surely the insurance company could treat this like a wheel clamp? Certainly would take longer to remove the secured winter wheel, then fix 2 /4 wheels to the van?
Point of interest though, I'm not allowed to use them at the site I store my van at due to a fire that spread to other vans a couple of years back, no wheel clamps etc. If any body wants a pair of locking winter wheels let me know! Would gladly swap for a pair of steel wheels with ancient/rubbish tyres that I could put on my van so I could remove my wheels!!

I remove my wheels & fit a JSB Hublock http://www.jsbhublock.co.uk/indexhtml.html & put the van on axle stands to relax the suspension. the Jsb hublock is accepted by most Insureres

A suggestion I 've heard before, but never tried myself, that allows you to remove the wheels and to comply with your insurance requirements is to replace your normal wheels with an old set perhaps not even a set with tyres on. This still allows you to fit a wheel clamp and would allow you to move the caravan, albeit slowly and short distance (perhaps repositioning in storage), if the need arose, without having to put the "real" wheels back on.

Alko recommend taking the weight off the suspension to let it "rest" but insurers' wheelclamp requirements prevent that - fortunately CC insurance doesn't make the wheelclamp obligatory - so maybe the answer is a more careful choice of insurer.

The front of the our van is secured to a post secured to the concrete,

But I still use the wheel clamp when the van is jacked up & resting on it's axle stands,
I use two of these so that the van can sit level across the axle, even though the drive slopes side to side.

I have been with CC insurance but they are far too expensive (£50 +) for my van. Think I will use axle stands with wheels on or get some scrap wheels to fit overwinter

Why not join the rest of us who caravan all year, never mind putting it away when it gets cooler , it makes a very expensive decoration if you only use it for 6 months

Not a good idea becasue if for soem unknown reason yur caravan is involved in an incident,i.e. fire, accident, theft you may have to pay out of your own pocket to a third party.
