wiring in a radio

I've spent most of today installing a radio and speakers into my caravan. All that's left to do is connect up to the battery. I plan to use an in line fuse rated at 10a. My reasoning behind this is that I believe the wire I've used is maybe 15a and I seem to recall the motor factor guy saying the fuse needs to be rated lower than the wire for obvious reasons. The radio itself has an already installed 15a fuse in the back. So if I connect up to battery terminals like for like but put the in line 10a fuse in the positive wire outside the battery box would that do the trick?

What you need to do is confirm what the load of the radio is (current) measured in amps. If it is drawing less than 15amps then you need to confirm that the cable you have used is capable of more than 15amps otherwise it will burn and potentially cause a fire.
Install your in line fuse in a convienent position as near to the battery as possible and with fuse that is capable of protecting the cable and the radio in the event of a fault.
You may only be dealing with 12v electrics but they can still cause a fire if connections are not tight, cables should not be installed in a position where they could be easily damaged such as tight holes or rubbing against sharp edges.
If in doubt always get a qualified person to check your work.
