word of warning

Whilst waiting at traffic lights in Nice (France) a guy wearing a motor cycle helmet opened my wife's car door and stole her handbag, then mounted a waiting scooter and away.

So all the warnings that are given about always locking car doors are VERY applicable.

Fortunately my wife does not carry our passports but it is surprising how many items are carried, in our case dupplicate keys were the greatest concern.

My wife was badly shaken and had difficulty at the Police station in remembering what was in the bag. A German guy later gave some good advice he said why not use the "note pad" facility on the mobile to list the contents of your wallet and the wife's handbag (that is if the lady is prepared to disclose what treasures they carry!!!

Anyway people take care, but have fun

As much as the post was very good I would like to pint out the following.

Wifes friend who is a lady head teacher had her BMW car door opened at lights and her mobile, hand bag and lap top stolen off the seat.

Another friend and his wife had a rear side window smashed with a hammer and his wifes hand bag stolen and mobile from dash board holder as they were distracted.

We know of a lady sales rep who had some guys get in her car at lights, and then told her where to drive and told her what they would do to her. They took all her personal belongings and company samples and fled with out ever touching her. Police said it was more or less her own fault for having the car unlocked and valuables on display.

We had some of our own personal belongings stolen from locked car at a motorway service area, car was also locked and alarmed when we returned to the car!

We know personaly of numerous other incidents, but they all happened here in the UK !

So please don't think that this is a precaution for European travel only. Lock doors as you travel anywhere!
