Any body out there tow with a Hyundai Terracan? The Auto version ticks all the boxes and the 5 year warranty and price is very compelling. I notice that the rear overhang looks a bit long and worry about stability problems though.

I would use it to tow a 1.5 T van, a 2 T horse boxe and upgrading the van to twin axle is on my wish list. My old Trooper does great but is not gettin any younger

I only had a quick test drive in one, but afterwards compared it an early Discovery. Has soft suspension, so feels like it rolls a little more. Has lost a lot of power with the auto box and noisy as well. On the plus side, it has all the normal 4x4 attributes, a huge boot, loads of kit and a very good price.

Thanks Lol - doesn't exactly sound like the peoples choice as a tow car does it. I too thought early Disco and remember the issues with rear tyre pressure, towball height etc in the letters colums of caravan mags. I'll keep the Troop or maybe look at the Sorento.

David,

Mate of mine has just changed to a Terracan from a chipped Citroen C5. He has just these shores for a winter in Spain. Before he went we were discussing his new buy. He said it was very stable(The usual"dont know its there). One curiousity is that he says he gets 31mph solo and the same towing.

Safe towing

Hi David, have just aquired terracan although a manual. I tow a 1400kg caravan and am soon upgrading to a twin axle. We recent ly towed home over 100 miles through near gale force winds it was as solid as a rock. Who can argue with a 5 year warranty, peace of mind counts for a lot! Mark

Hi David, I have a Terracan and have had it for 2 years and i only use it for towing. Dont be put off what people have said about it, I used to have a shogun before but this is a far better towing vehicle and it pulls great. It has plenty of space in the rear,it is very stable when towing and it does not hang about as it has plenty of torgue.Have a test drive in one and you will be surprised, with a 5 year unlimited warranty and a very good price, you cant go wrong! I am in the Caravan Club and more and more members are buying them so that is saying something. Please be free to email me if you have any queries.

Nice to see this topic resurected - I had given up - thanks for the positive replies people.

The price, spec and warranty is what attracted me in the first place plus any replacement towcar has to be man enough to tow 2 ton+ of horsebox as well as a van - I hadn't heard anything negative about the Terracan but then I hadn't heard anything good either so your posts are encouraging.

Iv'e looked at them on show stands so the next step is maybe a road test - trouble is the old P reg Trooper today did it's usual effortless job on hauling my grandaughters horse to a show and it is going to be a very hard act to follow!

The terracan is an old design 4x4 and is very agricultural in driving and comfort. I would steer clear.
Err, Kanga? David does want to tow a horse box, is that not agriculture? Perhaps you could recommend something more suitable?
