Hi this is the first time i have used the forum,im fed up reading about people who have seasonal pitches should buy a static.Yes i leave mine on site march to nov ,but i still tow it at xmas and before the season starts to other areas, does this mean i should still buy a 22000 pound static van .

I would tow it more if they gave me four days of at a weekend instead of just two

I am with you Ian. I use a seasonal pitch, it suits my needs for our boating activities. Look at it also from the site owners point of view, they get their money guaranteed. There will always be enough sites no matter what anyone says in my opinion. Sites will develop and expand to cope with the needs of the caravan brigade.

I understand what people are going on about saying that when the site is full there are no spare pitches because of all our EMPTY VANS , but they might visit that area once a blue moon, not like me who go every two or three weeks ,and spend our money in the local stores.ok i meen pubs

you do what you want to do.

God forbid that there are fellow caravaners who wish to tell one what to do and to actualy sugest that you should not use a seasonal pitch. After all it leaves more room on the road for the rest of use.

Not everyone wants to visit the same site year in year out. Each to his own. Some people are restricted in the use of touring due to work commitments, etc.

Seasonal or not? Me and mine - I leave work on a Friday at 4pm, having packed overnight bags for the family Thurs eve. I collect the children, hubby arrives home at 5pm, everyone jumps in the car and by 6:30pm we are having a lovely cuppa in the already set up van with a pizza heating in the oven on our lovely seasonal pitch which is just an hour and a half away. After a leisurely lunch on Sunday, we set off home at about 3-4pm after having a thoroughly relaxing weekend and feeling invigorated for the week ahead. This is the 2 out of 3 weekend routine throughout the year. We then take the van off to 'tour' a couple of times a year. If we ever get fed up of the site, we can move it on at no expense other than a bit of diesel and we don't have many people asking if we 'rent' out the static so they can stay in it (at none-existent rates of course as they're family/friends!). Our friends - every time they wished to go away for the weekend he had to take the Friday afternoon off to collect the van from storage. He then took it home so his wife could pack it (can't keep on the driveway due to 'new house' rules). Even though the site they wanted to stay on is only 1hr away, they're not pitched/set up until 9:30pm. Come Sunday, they have to be off the pitch for 10am - was it worth it for 1 full day? Needless to say, they have now joined the seasonal pitch brigade and are enjoying their new found weekend! It's great if you are not working/retired as you can come and go as you please, but peeps, please don't condemn those who choose to get more out of their caravan by keeping it in one place as it means we don't have to eat into our annual leave and can spend more time with our family when we really need it.

I am with you on this - at the end of the day its what suits you and your family best with work commitments etc. We cannot use our van as much as we would like, as you say by the time we finish work got the van out of storage packed up and go its dark! I only wish we could find a decent site an hour from home that we could leave our van on its not for the want of trying anybody any ideas we live in Blackpool

Our van is based on Wild Rose in Appleby. It's a lovely site which would be about an hour's drive for you from Blackpool (we're in Manchester) and is open all year including Xmas/New Year. They have full and monthly seasonal pitches. It's definately worth a visit to see what you think. Although the rates have gone up (Summer is Mar-Nov) to us it is still worth every penny given how often we visit.
