    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thanks guys. All very helpful indeed. I don't fancy getting involved in curved timbers if I can help it. I'll continue to fire up the fan heaters! Those pictures are interesting to see, makes it alot more clear.

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thanks everyone! All really helpful stuff and those images are helpful too. This is probably a silly question...but... would it be worth just biting the bullet and replacing as much of the batten as I can since theres already and ugly great hole in the wall or is that extremely naieve of me and...

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thanks I'll have a look! No not at all. It was all intact. The screws felt like they were fairly tight in the awning rail so nothing obvious there...but... the corner of the awning rail where it bends round was a bit black inside so I suspect that's where the water was getting in. My only real...

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Amazing insight! Thanks for the images. I know 100% what you mean. I started off with another area which turned out to be absolutely fine, a bit of a red herring, and ended up finding this. I'm determined to rectify it, it's an older van (2003) but it's perfect for us and the inside is lovely...

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thank yo! Thanks! I will definitely invest in some of that. Sounds like it's worth every penny! In terms of sealant. I've got some tubes of Sikaflex 552 on standby ready to go. I've read its the strongest and best stuff to go for so after all of this work, I want to get it right! Haha no doubt...

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thanks! I'm with you... I've got a little Stanley damp meter that I've been using so hopefully that'll do for now. Also got a fairly good dehumidifier so I'll get on with that for now... I'm even considering leaving it exposed over the summer while we (hopefully) use it to give it some good...

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thanks guys. The awning rail is already off and the van covered of course for protection. I think I'll spend a few a days next week trying to dry it out... if not then it'll be time to multi-tool it out but I'm praying I can avoid this 🤣 Unfortunately the top of the batten is inside a top locker...

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thanks alot guys for your help... I guess it'll be a case of a fan heater, windows open and a dehumidifier? I've had a closer look and although it's obviously wet... its not.breaking away or crumbling away at all. It all feels very much insitu and fairly 'hard' still

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Thanks again Mr Plodd. Always helpful! Yes the rail is off and all clean ready to go back on. My only concern was if the screws would go back in which lead me to investigate and open the lovely can of worms. I suppose the only way to really know is see if the screws hold? Thanks again I...

    More Help Please Damp Batten!!

Hello again! So I had a damp patch on my caravan wall. Not very big at all about 20cm x 20cm so I cut it out to investigate (can of worms) I found a wet batten... the batten which holds the awning rail of course. Now we know awning rail needed resealing and we are in the process of that...

    Damp Advice. 2003 Sterling Europa

Thanks alot for your help. Yes I'll definitely invest in one of those. The rails and cassette door area will definitely be resealed but unfortunately due to lovely weather today I was confined to the inside so thought I'd make a start but I'll definitely be identifying and hopefully fixing the...

    Damp Advice. 2003 Sterling Europa

Hi all, So recently we had a damp check carried out on our van and there were sky high damp readings (99% in places) in the rear O/S floor. Never picked up before, even on the service 6 months ago! Anyway because of the age of the van. The cost of repair was not worth it... so I thought I'd...

Removing Rear Top Cupboards for damp repair

Ah yes definitely! Well we had it looked at a repair centre and the gentlemen there said the water ingress is coming from the awning rail which needs to be taken off and resealed. Although, he said it is best to fix the inside first as currently there will be nowhere for the rail to be screwed...

Removing Rear Top Cupboards for damp repair

Thanks for the input! Yes I need some better pics which I will hopefully get soon when I next pop down to storage. But you are correct the shelf does run under the cupboards so that will need removal too! I'm beginning to think it'll be a case of I find out as I go type of thing which always...

Removing Rear Top Cupboards for damp repair

Hi all, We've got a Europa 500L (2003) and unfortunately found some damp on the N/S at the rear just behind the window. It's just under the rear top cupboards so we need to remove these cupboards in order to repair and replace that section. The question is, has anyone had any experience of...
