Worse than expected economy when towing.

We recently bought a 2006 Freelander TD4 and have towed our 'van which weighs 1109kg plus load, so probably about 1220kg and I think it drinks the juice -

    Mondeo v 407 v Freelander

Just reporting back.... We picked up the Freelander, then went and got the Elddis and it was joy from start to finish ('cept for reversing with the 'van, but I'm sure that will come back to me). But cruising along at 65mph was fine, not a bother, and we even over-took a car on a long long hill...

    Mondeo v 407 v Freelander

Thanks for the feedback guys. As for the when and where... we're Northern Ireland and will hopefully go away every second weekend to proper sites. Don't do Rallies. I'm getting a loan of my bro-in-laws Freelander (the one we might be buying) to collect our new 'van. So at least I can get a...

    Mondeo v 407 v Freelander

We're looking at getting a used car to tow our new (year old) Elddis Xplore 6 berth and have narrowed it down to the bwlow cars. Conventional wisdom would say to go for the Freelander as it's heavier and is a 4X4 jeep. But the power and torque of the Mondeo and 407 is far superior to the...

    Normandy sites commutable to EuroDisney

Hi all, I'm planning my wifes 40th and wanna take our 'van over to France, sailing into Cherbourg and I'm looking for nice sites in the Normandy area that are cummutable to EuroDisney (we have two kids 8 and 3), either driving or train to Disney. Anyone any suggestions? Thanks.

    New Born baby and Caravaning

Thanks for all your feedback. We're beginning to look for a bargain on AutoTrader. Maybe to start going away at weekends from June. Baby will be a month old by that stage. Thanks.

    Renault Laguna 1.9Dci or Peugeot 407 1.6 HDi 110

Hi, Has anyone towed with either a Laguna 1.9DCi estate or Pug 407 1.6 HDi 110 estate? Do they make good towing cars. We'll be towing either an Avondale Dart 6 berth or Baily Ranger 6 berth. Thanks

Citroen Xsara Picasso 2.0hdi, how well do they tow??

For the past 2 years I towed an Avondale Dart 510/5 with a Citreon Pic 2.0 HDi, 90bhp version. Great car for towing, nice n' stable. The only down side is, as ours is the 90bhp, it does run out of puff on long hills. But that's being picky. I'd buy another, but would go for the 110bhp...

    New Born baby and Caravaning

Hi All, We're expecting our second child in early May, oldest is 5 next week. We sold our Avondale over the winter as we thought we wouldn't use it this year, due to having a new-born child. We're now starting to think should we buy a new one. Anyway, my question is this: How old is OK to...

No electrical power and trip switch not working

Got it sorted. It was just a flat battery. I must have left the caravan battery switch on and the front light circuit switch on and a light on too. Got a lead to plug it into the house socket, 4 or 5hrs later, hey we have battery powered light. Duh! How stupid do I feel?

No electrical power and trip switch not working

Thanks guys. I never knew that about the trip switch, cheers. I'll take the battery out, test it and give it a charge in the next few days. I'll keep you posted. Cheers.

    Buying a Caravan

Mark, one step at a time. We got a secondhand trailer-tent towed by a 1.4 Focus first. Tried it for a year to see if we liked it. We're both working good jobs too. In the second year we sold her Focus and bought a secondhand Citroen Piccaso, we had to add

No electrical power and trip switch not working

Hi guys, I was in our Avondale Dart and flicked on the battery and then a light, it flickered for a split second and went out. Now nothing works at all, no plugs no lights, nothing. I switch on the 'van battery, the neddle goes to yellow, I then switch on any of the circuit swithes and the...
