La Yole, St Jean de Monts

La Yole was the first site we ever stayed at, anywhere, back in 1985, in a Eurocamp tent. The fact that we are still camping and caravanning 25 years later must tell you something about how much we enjoyed the experience. The site has, I know, been much 'improved' since then, but the beach and...

    Just been 'thrown off' site

Ian, I know the site you mean, and when we stayed there last October, it was pretty clear that about 75% of those staying there were using their caravans as a base for working. It was not an issue for us, and we certainly would not have dreamt of complaining, but your experience leads me to...

    Just been 'thrown off' site

The rules of both clubs are perfectly clear on this point - sites are only for use for leisure purposes. I'm not saying this hasn't been an inconvenience to us over the years - there have been times when we have been working away from home when we have wished to live in the caravan. We have...

    Blinds up or down?

We keep ours up while towing to improve vision of following traffic, but this only works with some caravan layouts - if you don't have a clear line of vision through the 'van, there is no advantage. We started off leaving the blinds down while not in use, to avoid fading, but we've got very...

What can you take to France?

A few years ago, when we had the Foot and Mouth epidemic here, there were, at least in theory, strict rules about what you could take into France - no fresh milk or other dairy products, no fresh meat, etc. Even then, we were never stopped and interoggated, let alone the fridge or cupboards...

    Which European Breakdown Cover?

The RAC Arrival scheme through the C&CC does not have a maximum length for caravans covered. You can have European cover added to this at extra cost. However, it is annual cover, rather than single trip, so may not be what you are looking for.

    Avoiding Lyon

Lyon used to be a nightmare when we were first going down through France in the 1980s, but these days it is easy to avoid. If you follow the signs for 'Rocade', this will take you around the periphery. However, although it will reduce the stress a bit, it won't altogether keep you out of heavy...

Camping Chateau de Gandspette - has anyone been?

We like this site and don't find it expensive using Camping Cheques. The dishes Val recommends in the restaurant are excellent, although some of the items on the menu are a bit mediocre. We once enquired of the waitress about the Hesdin pork, and she summoned the chef to have a chat with us...

Camp Municipal Du Bord De L Aisne

Nice, well-kept, level site. Toilet block rather basic but clean. Easy walk into town, where there is a supermarket and a few bars etc. Close enough to Reims for a day out if you fancy it. We would certainly use it again.

    Sites Filling Up.

Like Val, we usually stop at Gandspette on our way home, usually for two or three nights. There is plenty to do in the area: I especially recommend at visit to Castell and the oil mill there, and St Omer is definitely worth a visit, particularly if you can make the Saturday morning market. And...

La Pergola Caravan Site, Doucier, Jura

I didn't respond immediately, because our stay there was quite a long time ago, and I thought someone might have more recent experience. However, as no one has responded, here goes, for what it is worth. The pitches on this site do vary a lot, because of the terracing etc., and I think some of...

    does c & cc have?

Trewan Hall in Cornwall also has a pool, with a dome for use in poor weather. I've never been there, so I can't comment on the site. Although operated according to C&CC rules, with the same fee structures (including member concessions), it is actually a privately owned site and has to be booked...

RAC, roadside and recovery offer via c & cc

If the offer is the same as that on the flyer we had this morning with the C&CC magazine, it looks as if the

    Rhyno caravan mover

We've had our Rhyno for two years now (fitted by the company) and are still as delighted with it as on the first day! Definitely the best 'accessory' we have bought for the caravan. Our 'van has a max weight of 1325kg and we have a 110 amp battery.

Driving to Lake Garda - route plan help?

That is broadly the route we used when we went down to Camping Butterfly last September and it seemed to work for us. Don't forget to top up with fuel as you go through Luxembourg - it was significantly cheaper than elsewhere along the route. Next cheapest was Switzerland, and as you are still...
