Having problems with threading our awning through the chanel on the van - what type of lubricant?? or anything else that would assist.

We are looking to return to Ireland. On previous visits we have booked the ferry in advance due to our travel pattern. We now have a more flexiable approach to our scheduling. Has anybody any experience of turning up at the ferry port and booking and going? Are their any cost...
