The 12v setting for the fridge only refers to a connection to the towing vehicle (engine running) so yes, for the fridge to run on 12v you will need the second (grey) 12s socket fitting to your car. The fridge has no 12v link to the caravan battery.

Rich, Hope you got a good warranty...the head problem will not be solved with a new gasket, there is an inherant problem with the cooling system on the 1800 petrol engines which LR are reluctant to admit. You will be renewing cylinder heads every 10,000 miles...

You would be well advised to take an adapter in any event. We have been to France twice now with the first site being a standard UK plug but the second site had the full monty of two pin plug with reverse polarity and a low output of 5 amps...no good for hair dryers !!! Get yourself a plug-in...
