    Sandyhills bay, Scotland.

Paul, We stayed on Brighouse Bay last month(a sister site) but we spent an afternoon on the beach at Sandyhills Bay. It's a nice clean site right by the beach - the reception car park is also the public car park for the beach. The beach is nice but the tide goes out a very long way. Sandyhills...

How do you fold your awning?

We've just bought a new awning and it was packed with the zip out panels already in situ. Previously, I have always folded the panels separately. What do you do? Ken.

    Midge Repellent.

Hi Dusty, I'm off to Scotland in 3 weeks. Maybe an old wives tale but we're going to take Brewers Yeast tablets for a couple of weeks before we go - apparently the midges don't like the taste of it in your blood / sweat. It's been recommended to me by more than one person although this will be...

Sites in Isle of Whight any ideas

Hi Richard, Last year we stayed at Appuldurcombe Gardens in Wroxall near Shanklin / Ventnor. Lovely family orientated site on the edge of the village but adjacent to open countryside and only 3 miles from the beach at Shanklin. It has a bar, some low key entertainment, a small shop and an...

    elddis shamal xli 1995 model

Hi Tony, We have a 1992 Elddis Cyclone XL (our first)and have had it since 2002. It needed some resealing at the rear last year due to rising damp readings and the front needs the same this year. I view it as not unusual in a van of this age and justify the hundred or so pounds the works costs...

    Two Chimneys in Kent

Hi Richard, We stayed there for a week last July. Friendly, family orientated site. Facilities were clean and park was well kept. The main touring area is on the left as you drive in and is fairly open. We preferred the smaller area towards the back of the park in a small 'paddock' with hook ups...

    Bike carriers

Kev, We take 5 bikes with us when we go. 3 go on the car roof using roof bars and 3 individual cycle carriers and the other 2 go in the van. Once pitched, we've got a tow ball carrier for the 2 that were carried in the van.Ken

    site by boats

Chris, As an alternative to the IOW ferry, I have seen touring caravans pitched on the shoreline near Calshot Castle (E.Heritage)where Southampton Water enters the solent. Not an official site as such just a cordoned off part of the car park. I'd imagine very basic facilities and I'm not even...

    help clutch smells

Mark, I did a similar thing when we first started caravanning. I had a Volvo V70 at the time, reversed up a long slope 'on the clutch', loads of smoke, smelt for a day but no problems thereafter. Went on to do 80,000 miles before we changed it. Ken.

    hobourne at torbay

Paul, We stayed there for a week in June 2003. We have 3 kids whom were then aged 9,7 & 5. Good family site although I could imagine it would be very busy in August. They have friendly security on the gate and the facilities are good. There are two touring areas, one past just past the shop and...

    Porthmadoc

Hi Poppy, In August 2003 we stayed at Tyddyn Llwyn Caravan Park in Porthmadog. We have 3 kids whom were then 9, 7, & 5. Lovely family park, set almost in its own little valley, well back from the road that takes you from Porthmadog to Black Sands yet only an easy 15 min walk to the town. There...
