    ABBEY GRP SIDES

I probably need to add to my previous post about the Technical Manager's comments. Yes, for sure that one of the reasons for abandoning the GRP sides is the cost of producing them. In terms of their repair - the 'difficulty' is in obtaining a satisfactory finish. Apparently, it is very...

    ABBEY GRP SIDES

We were talking to the Swift Group's Technical Director at the NEC last month. He said that one of the issues with the Abbey GRP sides is that although they are more resistant to denting etc, they are also much more difficult to repair when they are damaged. Added to that, the fact that they...

    Loose fit Carpets

Nigel You could no doubt order a set of loose fit carpets for a later model of your caravan from a Swift dealer, providing the colour scheme is compatible. Perhaps you could persuade a carpet fitter to lay the vinyl for you? However, it would not be the same as factory fitted vinyl -ours has...

    heating the awning

Whilst the extending of the blown-air system might sound like a good idea - it would be interesting to hear from anyone who has already done it. In our experience, the amount of warmth that passes through the duct reduces over the distance - so in our case the end bathroom gets barely a hint of...

    Panorama XL porch awning

Hi Big Roy Yes - I read on another forum about an Panorama XL owner who had his awning replaced twice because window panels came away from the fabric. He has now changed to a Sunncamp one and is apparently happier with it. Regarding Chris's comments, I think any product you buy has an...

    Ace Northstar

Hi Robert We bought an Ace Award caravan last year. Ours is a Transtar. We are truly delighted with it. Having said this, we've not owned any other models - so perhaps not a very objective view! If you were looking for possible criticisms of Ace's, I would say that the drop-in carpets could...

    help or avdise req

Hi From their website specs, I understand the rear bed can be used either as 2 singles or 1 double:- 1 double 2125x1830(84"x72") or 2 singles 1830x760(72x30") + 2 singles 1840x650(72"x26") + 2 bunks 1720x530(68"x21") or one double 2125x1720(84"x68") Why not check by phoning the dealer...

jockey wheel or not to jockey wheel ??

Hi We always remove ours for towing. Since we replaced our standard wheel with one that has a bigger pneumatic tyre, we found that the tyre turns and scrapes against the A-frame panels if it grounds - leaving horrible black scratch marks on the white plastic.

    For better or worse !!

A lovely old retired couple who I know very well (my dear parents), have been caravanning for the last fifteen years. Their preference is for a Series 5 Pageant, with motor mover and this year's Freelander. My Dad also had great fun taking part recently in an 'off-road driving experience'...

    caravan motor novers

I wonder if the chap had a Reich mover fitted? I mention this because I have heard other instances of these being damaged and I believe the ground clearance is a little less with the Reich than with the Carver or the Powrtouch. We have the Powrtouch heavy-duty model and are delighted with it...

    Caravan storage near Chippenham

Jo Maybe its not near enough to Chippenham for you, but there is one at Manor Farm, Devizes. It's a registered CASSOA storage (Bronze) and I found it on the CASSOA website. Telephone General enquiries: +44 (0)1380 840349

    melamine mugs

I found that my melamine mugs were easy to de-stain when they were new, but as they became more used, they stained even quicker and it was progressively harder to remove (even with Milton, bleach etc, putting them in the home dishwasher etc,.) In the end, I bought a pair of cheap bone china...

    Etiquette re parking and storage?

Hi I think it is pretty un-neighbourly to keep a caravan on your driveway if it is in very close proximity to your neighbours, or is directly in their line of sight. We don't keep our 23ft caravan on our drive. It fits on easily enough and is not immediately adjacent to next door, but even I...

    Useful Caravanning Devices

I'd like some messaging (texting?) system which could identify the status of the shower/toilet block from my pitch - so that I can avoid long queues for a shower or periods when the blocks are closed for cleaning!

Carver caravan movers - twin axles

A Powrtouch installation engineer was talking to my OH recently about installing twin-axle movers, whilst fitting one to our single-axle van. I'm just a girlie so what would I know! - but I'm pretty sure he said it was necessary to raise the height of the jockey wheel so that the forward pair...
