Yes. Very true. In your shoes I would take the apartment option. The only reason we take the caravan is because we spend 85 (ish) days, in total, in Portugal and then Spain.. That, for us, is undoubtedly cheaper than the apartment(s) option.

Agree with above comments. But, check your insurance. Most have a proviso that alarms should be active when stored/pitched.

E Movis tag is easiest and best. Make sure you have one specifically for Portugal and Spain. The motorways aren't cheap but they represent very easy driving. The alternative is to register at the nearest "Etranger" point (usually at at motorway services shortly after you cross the border). BTW...
