    SatNavs

"Reg what do you expect from a standard sat nav, for it to actually know you are towing? and therefore not go down lanes?" But it does have the intelligence to avoid lanes with the "Main Roads" option so why not combine the "Fast Routes" (using motorways) with "Main Routes". I guess I was...

    SatNavs

I have a Tom Tom XXL and am really disappointed with it. It is ssooooo sloooooow!! It has this liking for tiny narrow roads even when I have asked for the fastest route using motorways. It will take you as far as it can on the motorway and then find every tiny road possible for the final leg...

    Does my battery sound okay?

Just a thought....... If you do not use the battery for long stays without EHU plus have a mover wouldn't a car battery be more suitable?

    Free Wi-Fi

Not quite correct but if you want to connect to a WiFi networks as opposed to a GPRS (mobile) network you wouldn't need to connect the phone as a modem. Using the set-up you describe you are using GPRS for which you are paying for.......... not exactly free!!

    Free Wi-Fi

A bit of a mix-up with terminology here...... mobile phone connection to the internet is generally done via GPRS (etc) although some phones are also wifi enabled. Wifi is a wireless extension of a land line. You wouldn't normally use a mobile phone as a modem for wifi, most laptops have an...

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Hi Dave Just a question out of curiosity. I assume the contol unit is auto sensing for example when you connect to the car electrics it will auto disable the caravan 12v (no manual intervention). The voltages on my system, which appears to be the same as Tims, will register 13v (ish) with...

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Well here are some interesting facts straight from the Baily manual. "The 12v system is designed to operate with a leisure battery in circuit and should not be turned on without one connected. The 12 volt supply to the caravan services can be isolated via the 12 volt on/off (master) switch on...

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Hi John, Logically no but I would want to be sure and eliminate it right from the start. It would not surprise me to find no voltage at the battery leads with no battery connected and EHU purely as a safety feature. When the battery has a full charge I believe that there is an automatic cut off...

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Tim, Have you tried using another battery, even a car battery will do, to eliminate a battery fault berfore you shell out for a new PSU?

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Hi Beehpee Well my logic would to be add an ammeter in line with battery connected and then do the following:- 1. With the EHU dissconnected turn on several lights within the van. This should show a discharge on the ammeter (current drain) Leave on for some time to discharge the battery a...

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Beehpee, Well I have read it again and here's what you said........... "am starting to get confused by talk of current and volts and the need for an ammeter and I am an auto electrician" Confused or don't know the difference?.................... still doesn't inspire confidence! However I...

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Don't know the diffrence between voltage and current?........ no you cannot use a meter and just change the settings. IT MUST BE IN LINE!!! Auto engineer? Ah Well! The reason I said I would put an ammeter in line would allow you to actually see what was happening to the charge and...

    Caravan charger/ psu /battery problems

Although I don't know the charging circuit used in caravans as a starting point I would put an ammeter in the positive (i.e.IN SERIES) line going to the battery. If you can get hold of one from a breakers yard from an old car this would be ideal. Then you can see what is really going on. If...

    Sat nav query

Yes I do. Last time I did an update it bricked it (locked it up) and I had to use a work-around to un-brick it. Known fault!......... ..........................Not impressed!!
