    Ammeter?

Your device needs to be around one of the incoming mains wires to sense the current flowing. I'm not sure that is easily (or even safely done) in a caravan.

    Solar Charging Leisure Battery

I agree with Reg.... if your battery is fully charged to start with, a small 2w solar panel will maintain that charge. It won't really charge the battery but will prevent it self discharging in storage by putting in about 70 to 80ma in daylight. Ron

    side panel noise

We had the same problem with our 2010 Swift...taptap all night! Like Gary I found it was the insect screens in the fridge vents. I slid off the fridge vents and stuck the vertically mounted insect screens in place with blutak. Problem solved ! Ron

    reversing bleepers

I'm not certain re the legality of them. It sounds like they will still work at night? Does anyone else know? Ron

    Members funny stories

Some years ago we were away on a CC site in Devon. Pitched at the back of us was a van with an adjacent car. My wife noticed the car's registration was one digit different to the vans. Most of the reg was correct but the numbers were reversed.Later that week the car and van's registrations...

    fridge

Why not switch off your fridge's mains supply and run the fridge on gas. It should give your daughter a holiday and you can sort out the problem when she gets back. It's probably the element as Damian has said. Ron

Help - knocking noise from tow bar/hitch/somewhere

Val, My towcar was very noisy, making loud cracking, banging and creaking noises whilst travelling on anything but straight and level. Someone suggested I give the towball a good clean up with fine emery paper and clean the pads in the Alko hitch. Silence from then on...so it's a part of my...

Electrical problem with road lights. Help please

I had a similar problem some years ago and to save time the fitter had connected the van's left and right light feeds together and fed them from one side of the car wiring. This may be the case with your car and you only need this one connection to fail and all your van lights have gone. Good...

For The Attention of 2010 Swift and Sterling Owners

Mmh...Dave Chapman from Sargent told me I'd have to enable the box to be able to run the fridge and charge the leisure battery while towing. Ron

For The Attention of 2010 Swift and Sterling Owners

Hello Karina, As you look at the Sargent box it's the switch on the left marked 'isolate'. Sargent tell me it has to be enabled while towing if you want your fridge and split charge to work. Regards, Ron

For The Attention of 2010 Swift and Sterling Owners

I emailed Sargent with my findings regarding current drain and Dave Chapman replied saying their box under the seat must have the shutdown switch switched off to isolate all electrics except the alarm. If not around 100mA is being taken from the leisure battery and will discharge it pretty...

    Alarm draining battery?

Thanks for the info Sir Roger. I will isolate the charger on the Sargent box and see what happens. Chris, 30mA equates to almost 6 Amp hours a week which is quite a lot! Thanks again everyone, reassuring to know it's not just me! RonD

    Alarm draining battery?

Thanks Chris and others, 30ma is quite a bit over several weeks and may account for the problem. There is nothing at all switched on in the van and a DVM reads no current at all without the alarm on. I will check when the battery is charged and back on the van and see what current is being...

    Alarm draining battery?

Hello Mikey, I went up to the van today to check the battery and found it well down (below12v). I removed it to take home to charge and decided to visit the dealer who measured the voltage, printing out a report showing it as needing charging, reading 12.03v.This is the second time it's been...

    Alarm draining battery?

My 2010 Swift Freestyle has a remote controlled alarm fitted which runs from its own self contained battery. This battery is apparently 'topped up'. by the van's leisure battery. The info with it states the alarm will run for several months with no maintenance. After 4 weeks my 110Ah battery is...
