What niggles you about your van?

Swift Corniche 1990. The plug hole in the shower is never in the right position. I have to bail out the area every time before the toilet can be used again.

    Gas Cylinders

When I first started my van did not have a gas locker. Someone gave me a 15 kg bottle. This obviously just sat on the grass at the front of the van. What do you lot do when you go away? I have a lot better things to do with my time than worry about gas bottles. you lot are the type that sit in...

    Hose pipe ban

Thames water state on thier website "the ban includes any vehicle drawn by a private motorcar". So a Caravan can not be cleaned by a hose or pressure washer. However the ban is only for domestic customers so I take my caravan to a nationwide car wash establishment called arc and use thier jet wash.

    Carver water heater

Is it safe to leave water heater on for entire duration of stay at site? At the moment I switch it on in the morning and evening for showering and washing up and all other times it remains off.

    Unfriendly Caravanners - surely not!!!

I take 5 windbreaks with me everytime I go away. This gives my young daughter a safe area to play in. If people have a problem with people using windbreaks perhaps they should give up caravanning or go to adult only sites.

    Ferries

Try Norfolk Line. They go from Dover to Dunkerque. Crossing time 2 hrs. 30 minutes closer to Belgium than Calais. You will probably find the crossing cheaper than Dover to Calais as well. www.norfolkline.com

    Carver Water Heater

I have a Carver water heater (12volt/gas) in my 1990 Swift. When I switch my electric to the hook up the Carver makes a loud buzzing noise. when I switch back to the caravan battery the buzzing stops. The water gets heated either way.

    Boarding Ferry

I am a loading officer on a cross channel ferry. It is very rare to see any problems. The problems I have seen are incorrect jockey wheel stowage (too low). Incorrect outfit loading, car heavy at the back and van at the front causing sagging. During times of bad weather there may be movement...

    Caravan site booking

Ten years ago I would hook up drive to a town I wanted to be near. Then I would look for a site and get straight in. Today even if I try and book a week in advance decent sites are full. I know caravanning is getting bigger but I have not noticed this ammount of growth.
