Just bought a caravan and need a 1050 awning for it. Haven't a clue which awning to go for as we are new to caravaning this year.

Keep looking at the Isabelle but they are so expensive, can anyone recommend a 2nd alternative possibly as good quality.

Not too keen on Isabela because of them naf looking port hole windows in the door, have a look at Ventura, Bradcot.

Just to add to le crocs comment, I think Ventura are made by Isabella so technology there but at a lesser price(slightly). We have had Bradcot in the past and would reccomend these. It is a good idea to visit a local site and have a stroll around making a few notes as to what looks good, windows etc.

Dorema are a top quality make, but I am not sure how much cheaper than Isabelle they are. What I do know is that Dorema also sell a range of identicle awnings branded as StarCamp, made in the far east for significantly less money. However to be honest I would not bother. They are all such a pain to put up, cope with if wet etc, they just take the fun out of the caravan.

What Chris said, Isabella made in Denmark, Ventura made in Poland under licence from Isabella....same quality & materials.

After having our aluminium framed full awning Bradcot have the frame bent under strong winds in Cornwall last year, with all the trouble of putting up and down , we got a SunnCamp lean too and we are more than happy , ok not as big but we put it up in no time and the price is throw away compared to a full size. There are great savings on eBay if you don't mind going second hand, in fact I would advice it.

Hi Sandra,

We decided against a full awning for our 'van (1050) and went for a half size one instead. As it's just for the two of us, there's ample space for tables and chairs and all the usual peices of kit. We went for the Dorema Vitesse XL, it will be in it's third year, and so far we've been very pleased with it!!

What ever you do, avoid Dorema like the plague. It was the worst awning we have ever owned. The colour changed from Blue to green within two years. A zip had to be replaced, poles had to be replaced ue to corrosion after 6 months and we wee no where near the sea, stitching came apart after several months as it was stitched right on the very edge of the material. The workmanship is very poor however the actual material itself with the exception of the dye is very good. If the workmanship is improved it may be a better awning. We spent a bit extra and now have a Ventura. Our friends did the same.

Have you considered a Fiamma sunshade with additional front and side walls? The sunshade travels on the side of the van and can be up in under two minutes and the front and side walls can be added as required. Since we bought our first one we've not used our awning. We've never had any problems in windy weather although we do use a storm strap. Not everyone's cup of tea, but a versatile alternative. Also often available on e-bay.

Hi Wendy

Thanks for your message, we are hoping to go away at times with our family which would be another 4 adults and 1 child so am not sure if we would get away with a half size awning. In yours does it have room to put up a bedroom annexe?

I agree with Ian. My Dorema President vario has been trouble from day one.
We have had a Dorema Madison for 10 years and had no problems whatsoever with it, it is now surplus to requirements because we have a larger caravan but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Dorema the quality is fine. It has withstood gale force winds twice in March on the East Yorkshire coast. Perhaps this is due to the extra guy points in has compared with other awnings. The zips are YKK which are, I believe, very good ones.

You can buy an annex, Sandra.

We bought a cheapy Pyramid one for the VERY rare occasion we have family to stay who don't want to sleep in the 'van, if you are using it regularly, then there is the annex to fit - it's about
