We are about to buy a second-hand Jayco Caravan. It runs on 110v. I'm clueless unfortunately, so can someone please tell me whether this means I'd have to have American tv, kettle etc.. or can I convert it and if so, how do I go about that.

Thank you!!!

I am a little curious. I had assumed Jayco was an Aussie Company and they make a lot of vans for the Aussie market, however they could easily also supply the US market.

110 volts will be a DC voltage and so is different from our normal 230 volt AC. The ideal solution would be to change all the system to 230 volt AC, but that could be complicated and probably quite expensive. Do not just change the sockets etc as the wiring may not be up to the higher voltage. You can get adapters or buy some 110 volt electricals over the internet. Do you have any relatives in the US that could go shopping at Wal Mart for you? I think we still have a 120 volt kettle upstairs from our sojourn in Saudi, where we had both systems inthe house at the same time. Damm pain. I actually had to solve the problem the other way by using an adapter to allow use of 110 volt on our stadard AC circuitry.

Why not have a word with the dealers for RV's and see what they can recommend.

Jayco are a US company, their headquarters are in Indiana. You will not only have to change either our appliances or the onboard wiring but also need to check the hitch - American trailers have a much higher hitch weight than European vans - can be anything over 200 kg - not may vehicles in this country have a tow ball that can sustain that sort of weight. They also need a 2 inch towball not a European 50 mm. You need to talk to your dealer about compatibility problems before you actually take delivery.
