13 pin electrics

Hi, were getting a new van in a couple of weeks and it will have 13 pin electrics with it. I would like rewire the 2 7 pin plugs to a 13 pin plug on the car, I can splice the cable together but does anybody know the correct positions on the 13 pin plug ie pin 1 on 12n into ?, pin 2 ect ect ect

Hi David thanks for that.

I understand the 12 n into the 13 pin however the diagram both on towing trailers and western towing dont seem to match up 1 to 7 and 8 to 13 unless th diagrams use 2 different wordings??

I'm in the same position wanting to change the two 7pins sockets to the new Euro 13pin socket. Don't really want a set of adaptor leads dangling around the tow hitch.

Having a van where the dealer reversed from the 13 pin set up back to the 2 cable set up, to be in line with UK normality, I do wonder if it is really such a big deal. The car is now fitted with the 13 pin socket. Yes, I have the adaptor cables and I tie them up to the jockey wheel and no trouble at all. You can get ones with very short length.

To do this properly to my mind would suggest changing the cable back into the van back to 13 pin cable.

Hi Trucker ,me being a coward I have just done the opposite to our outfit , the tow vechle is 13 pin so I spent the money and bought the lead already made up so if things need to change later I just remove the ready made up lead.

I couldnt do with hastle

Done the job yesterday, used the diagram from this web address (it was the easiest to follow)

The only problem I had was the 12s pin 2 and pin 5 where to put them.

Phoned Western towing in Exeter where I had it fitted 18 months ago and got the answer.

Pin 2 was for battery charging and is not used on the 13 pin system (battery charges from fridge pin whilst it is on!!) and pin 5 was never used

Followed pin 2 wire blue back into car and disconected as it was live and job done.

Well hopefully as I pick up the new van next Saturday.

I need to fit 13 pin electics to our new Zafira. Vauxhall, for 1 manufacturer, do a 13 pin kit which plugs into the fuse box located in the boot. Does anyone know if this is only for the road lights, or does it cover all the electrics (fridge & battery)? HELP

I do not know and would suggest asking Vauxhall. A 13 pin set up should do everything but sometimes the installer only thinks you are towing a trailer, not a caravan and only connects the basics.
