Hi Neil,

yes I have done exactly the same job on my Bailey van. It's a straight forward enough job. I bought the cable and 13 pin plug and cable connectors from Towsure. The wiring diagrams for the 13 pin, 12N & 12 S plugs are easy obtainable on the internet. I cut the 12N & 12S cables about 1 metre back from the hitch underneath the van and then connected the old 12N / 12S cables to the connector blocks. Then matched up the corresponding 13 pin cables to the connecting block. I used proper crimps on all the cut ends of the wires for more secure connections. I also had to join the front side light wires into the block as they had been soldered into the lighting circuit seoperately. I'm no sparky and it took me three hours to do. Everything worked first time and so much easier and neater with one plug.

Good luck,

Grimbo

Neil,

I got my information thanks to Steve W on the forum last Novemeber. I have copied Steve's instructions which are in more detail than mine............

If you have a 13 pin socket already fitted to your car, all you need is the plug to fit, an appropriate lenth of 13 strand cable, ( I used 3 mtrs for car and van, a strip of good quality screw connectors. I cut the 12N & 12S plugs of the ends of the wires and pushed them up through the floor into the van, located the cut ends under bed box. Removed the outer covering from both cables and leaving plenty of cable to work with, cut and join the different wires one at a time.(I always solder the cut ends of wiring for a better connection) The 12N wires match the colours in the new cable. The 12S wires need to be transposed on to the wires as they are arranged in the old plug. ( These circuits can be found on Western Towing web site ) I then covered the connecting strip with a junction box and "Voila"

On my van I didn't cut cut the cables in the bed box because I found the wiring on my van split in two different directions beneath the van and went one side to the fridge and the other side to the fuse box etc..So that's why I cut mine towards the front of the van. Suggest you have a good look at the cable runs before you cut them.

I've just converted my 2001 Bailey from 12N+S to 13-pin. I retained the 12N cable and added 4x 2.5mm2 cables for the fridge+return and battery+return plus a 1.5mm2 cable for the reversing lights.

The external run from fuse box to plug was wrapped in insulating tape to keep all the cables together. The 4x 2.5mm2 cables were connected to the existing system at the fuse box and the 1.5mm2 cable connected to a shortened 12S cable.
