13 pin on 'van to 12s & 12n on car wiring conversion

Just got new 'van with 13 pin plug. Car has the two sockets 12N &12S. Read quite a bit about adaptors etc but am confused. I have bought a cable which the 13 pin from the caravan plugs into then there are two cables coming out of the back which go into the two car towbar sockets. I was thinking of buying a 13 pin socket and putting on the car except the wiring colours of the two sockets on the car I understand don't match up directly with the 13 pin.It just looks a tidier job with the single wire and was wondering if it's an easy DIYer job. Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

Yes it is an easy job, and it does look and work better than the 2 x 7 pin sockets.

The wiring for the 12N follows the current 12N configuration,

Pin 1 = LH Indicator (Yellow)Pin2 = Rear Fog (Blue) Pin 3 = Return(Earth)(White) for pins 1 to 8 Pin 4 = RH Indicator(Green) Pin 5 = RH Tail Light (Brown) Pin 6 = Brake Lights (Red) Pin 7 = LH Tail Light (Black)

Now the change of colours for the 12S.

Pin 8 =Reverse Light(Yellow from 12S cable) Pin 9 = Car +ve (Green from 12S cable) Pin 10 = Fridge +ve (Red from 12S cable) Pin 11 = Fridge return (Black from 12S cable) Pin 12 = NOT USED. Pin 13 = Return (Earth) for pin 9 (White from 12S cable)

Just disconnect the battery and take the two 7 pin sockets off, rewire as per the above .

I have the opposite problem in that I have recently got a new car with the 13 pin socket but my caravan has the twin 7 pin plugs. Is it worthwhile getting the caravan converted to the 13 pin plug or should I just buy an adapter.
