13 pin plug problem

We have a 13 pin plug on our van and a 13 pin socket on our car.
Our problem is that sometimes the inner and outer sleeves of the plug become misalligned and it's the devil's own job to get them in the correct position for when we want to hook up again.
Has anyone got any idea about what might be causing this problem and what is the best way to reallign the 2 sleeves?
Many thanks
Catherine

I have 13pin socket on car and 13pin plug on caravan i also changed my trailer to 13pin.I have had no problems with either in 3 years. The only thing i can suggest if you have been putting plug in and removing it correctly is have the 2 lugs each side of the plug which clip it together when you wire the plug up have become undone letting the two parts of the plug become mis-aligned or have they even brocken,if so i suggest you replace the van plug.

hi Catherine.
I had the same problem with mine and was recommended to me to insert a 50p. piece into the slot and turn it back into place.
(Cant for the life of me remember which way I had to turn it though)
Hope this helps.

Hi Catherine.

I had the same problem when we got the new van, once i got the sleeves re alligned i marked them so that if they had to move i could easily match them up again. We have not had any more probs.

Dougie....

Thanks for your replies.
Adrian - what slot do you mean?
Dougie - the sleeves are in the right place at the moment - I took the plug apart in order to do this by pressing down on the 2 lugs that hold the 2 sleeves together - but a bit of a struggle and not a good idea in the long term. I will certainly mark up the correct positions of the sleeves as this was a bit of a puzzle to start with.
