Hya, well we hitched up effortlessly, we had pre printed a list out from our computer and ticked it off as we went along so to remember to take everything we needed, which we did except for chairs to sit out in the awning on, and a watering can and funnel to fill up the toilet flush tank.

We used the site shower but used our caravan toilet. We managed to empty all the tanks no problem and fill them up ok, we forgot how to use the fridge and after about 6 hours it still didn't appear to be working after reading all the manuals and footering around with it all! We put some kiddy ice poles in it and went to bed, got up in the morning and they were frozen so it was working ok!

We all slept soundly even our muckle big dog. No need for the heating on as it was warm enough.

We went to Stranraer to a very small site, only drawback was lack of things to do with our kids, no park to play or open space to run round on really. But it was scenic, close to shopping and quiet and peaceful which was great.

Last night there was absolutely torrential rain and strong winds which we felt the van rock and worried about our awning taking off to spain! The poor sheep in the field sounded petrified and baaaah all night long the poor souls.

Took us longer to tidy up and pack away than it did to set up, we forgot to lock the roof heiki window so had to stop along the road and sort it when we realised it was vertical to the van - panic, luckily it was ok, no breakages! thankfully. Now it's safely stored away till next weeks trip to north berwick!

The Bailey Ranger 620/6 is a fab family sized van, and it's great having the fixed bed at the back for us weary parents. The toilet is a wee bitty narrow i would say, but otherwise everything is great and we're LOVING it!!!

Well done to you all. We are also new to all this and have now been away twice. We also forgot our chairs and our watering can, mistakenly thought our fridge wasn't working ..and also had v windy and wet weekend! Sounds like you really enjoyed it tho, as we did! If u are around the Northumberland area, I would also fully recommend Alnwick Gardens. (We have an annual membership and go a few times a year, there's a lot to do! Take wellies and a change of clothes for the kids if they're little. Some of the water features are 'interactive') also the castle is good (esp if you have boys!). Holy Island nice and Bamburgh castle stunning scenery. Seahouses good for fish and chips and Beadnell nice seaside! Druridge bay beautiful coastline (sound like an advert for the Northumberland tourist board!)

Enjoy!

hi folks, northumberland sounds great, i'll have to check it out... we joined the caravan and camping club and had wondered what their northumberland sites are like. It's north berwick we're going to next week - in scotland, Tantallon site, it's one of my kids scottish favourites, we live in Dumfries so we're in quite a good spot for touring north or south i suppose.

Has anyone stayed in any of the C&CC sites in northmberland, we are a quiet family, don't need pubs and clubs, but sea, sand and electric hook up are essential! So is a kids park to play in.

Ah yes sorry, just re-read your posting! Didn't notice the 'North' bit last time! I have only just joined the C&CC this week so we haven't visited any of their sites yet but someone recommended one at Beadnell.

We were at Dunstan Hill C&CC site near Alnwick at Easter and it was VERY cold! The toilet blocks are clean but unheated. No kids play area but plenty of space out of season, might not be in summer, and only a short walk to the sea. From memory I think the beach nearby is shingle (was too cold for a visit when we were there!) but its only a short drive to Bamburgh and Seahouses where the beaches are absolutely beautiful. Northumberland is our favorite park of the UK and 2 of our 5 trips so far have been there. We would highly recommend the area.

Love North Berwick too. I've very fond memories of visiting there in the late 70's. We took our kids there last year and it was just as I remembered it.

Hope the weather picks up for your next trip.
