2004 Isuzu Trooper 3.0 Diesel

Hi
I currently tow with a Ford Mondeo and it has caused me no problems however my local garage has got a nice Isuzu trooper in and I have been tempted by it. Has anyone got any experience of towing with one of these cars the one I am looking at is a 3.0 litre diesel and I am wondering what they are like as a towcar e.g how do they handle motorway inclines etc and what sort of mpg would I expect to get towing my 1400 kgs caravan. Just thougth I'd ask advice before I bought it because I am a bit undecided if it would be a step forward or back from the Mondeo.
Many Thanks!

No real personal knowledge but they are supposed to be pretty indestructable!! You will notice a huge difference in running costs though as anyone would going from your current car to a large 4x4. Sometimes though it's not what you need but what you fancy. I know which I would choose and it wouldn't be the ford!

The towing experience will be out of this world compared to the Mondeo, but you need to decide wether you WANT it, or NEED it! Heart or head? Personally, I only ever tow with 4x4, but that's my choice, not need.
As Martin said, the running cost will be higher, because whilst that 3.0 litre diesel will climb up a wall, it is old technology, and wasn't designed for economy.
Also bear in mind that it is a truck chassis, and will not handle like your Ford.
If it must be 4x4, there are better ones about than the Trooper.
Head or Heart?

Totally agree better 4x4's out there but if it handles anything like my car, every journey is an absolute hoot!!!!

Hi
Yeah I have weighed up the pros and cons but I bought it anyway lol. I decided that I WANTED another 4x4 I did have a Frontera years ago and loved it and then I had a couple of normal cars but I always missed the 4x4. The one I have bought is very nice and has full service history etc so I am very pleased with it and I think I will be ok with the 20-25mpg as it will be a very good towcar.
Thanks for the advice and opinions it helped.
Many Thanks!

Francis, you pays your money, and takes your choice! Good luck mate, and enjoy.
I must admit that my heart rules more than my head.
