2006 Bessacarr, external submersible pump will not stop

Hi All, I have a 2006 Bessacarr van and have a problem with the external pump. The van has an internal tank with its own pump. I can't find a pressure switch anywhere so it seems that the pump(s) are just switched with the tap micro switches.. It has a Sargent control panel with a 3 way switch to select external pump, Internal or no pump. The internal pump only works when it is switched to the internal position but I get 12 volts all of the time at the socket for the external pump. I am pretty sure it was working correctly, the van is new to us and came with a broken submersible pump but we added a new one a few weeks ago and we are pretty sure it only ran when a tap was opened. If not it would have burnt out by now.

It was suggested that I look at any filler set up for the internal tank but the swift manual we have (not sure it is the right manual) suggests that the process to fill the internal tank is a manual process of opening the correct valve and turning off the external pump when the tank overflows.

Any suggestions of what I can check would be most appreciated.

Hi and welcome ianh.

If I am correct. The external pump in your van is only there to fill the internal tank. Therefore it would have no need to be controlled by taps or a pressure switch. It would simply be powered, fill the tank up, then, either switch off using a float switch in the internal tank. Or manually when the tank overflows.

Hi John, I just found out the problem. It was user error so I will leave the thread here to save others the same pain. There is a switch with an LED on it by the door which I though just turned on a low level light, it is obviously also to allow you to fill the internal tank and look underneath for the overflow.

The van will operate with only the external tank or connection to a reduced pressure supply so it is also activated by the microswitches on the taps.
