Went on our annual pilgrimage to our dealers yesterday to have a nosey at the new 2010 model Swift interiors just to satsfy ourselves that there is nothing significantly better than our 2008 Coastline 540 (SE Charisma 555). Most models appear to have press button catches on the overhead lockers rather than mere magnetic catches and in the majority of cases on the ones I opened the catches stuck open. This would I think cause great irritation.

Locker catches and other fittings are probably produced at a set price. If you want a caravan that was fitted out with precision made fittings, then the cost would be astronomic. Swift do not make the locker catches, they are bought in, probably from some far eastern land. Anyway they are better than the plastic catches on, say a Bailey. If you are not happy spending

I used silicon on mine too, dont know what the problem is with that. If you bought a new house and the door hinges squeeked you wouldnt get the builder back would you.

The cold spell stopped mine from working, quick spray and job done, dont know what the problem is. Well as I only paid

Sorry didn't mean to make a major issue about the subject but thought someone from Swift might pick up on it. If I was a potential buyer and looking at several makes of vans this is the the sort of annoying things that might put you off buying one. Looked at another make of new van the same day and just inside the door the edging trim on a wood veneered panel was unstuck for about 6".

"If you bought a new house and the door hinges squeeked you wouldnt get the builder back would you."

Might if the doors didn't stay shut though.

I have four of those push button type catches on my bailey, they are a fiddly irritating device, but at 5 years old have never failed to work.

I always spray the catches and hinges with furniture polish, with added wax.

If i pay big bucks, i expect things to work, we caravaners accept sub standard products, but are charged a premium price.

Don't know why Swift have fitted them now. The magnetic catches have never been a problem. If one happens to be stuck open when you're driving you might find all condiments etc all over the caravan. The plastic locks on the exterior locker flaps are bad enough.
