We are new to caravaning and have bought a 2015 sterling continental to be kept on a seasonal pitch. Would you recommend new for old or market value insurance, with very different quotes? It has a tracker fitted but to have new for old you have to subscribe at £200 per year, taking insurance plus tracker up to nearly £1000. Input would be helpful. Thank you.

I only used new for old until a caravan was five years old, then market value. Yours is 9 years old, so it is really your decision. have you shopped around for quotations?

I went for new for old until mine was 10 years old, then as OC, went to market value, No tracker fitted, and I wouldn't want the van back.

Yes quite a few. New for old nearly 800, plus cost of tracker subs and market value around 300 cheaper

I presume you have been able to trawl a few companies for quotes - does seem expensive for a 9 year old van. Like others I had the van NFO initially but changed to market value as the years went by! For NFO I had to find a similar new van (in my case 2 berth end bathroom) and insure my van on it's cost which went up each year as new vans became more expensive.
I think you need to consider what you would do if the van was damaged beyond economical repair or stolen to decide whether the extra for NFO is something you would need.

Next year at 10 years old you won’t get NFO. So why bother now? Ok if it burns or gets nicked you will recover the current market value all being well. If that covers your financial loss why do you need NFO? However, even on a seasonal pitch make sure you fully comply with the Insurers required security.
Have you had quotes from the two Clubs?

Thank you. Think it’s going to be market value.
