Hi Jon

We have twin end bunks in our van - the lower one occupied by our 3 year old (not yet able to negotiate the top bunk!) and the top bunk houses our 8 month old - safely ensconced in a child's sleeping bag.

Works great!

Won't be doing it once she can sit up on her own, mind!

We took our 3 month old daughter on a one month tour of Spain in 1987 in our four berth Monza. She slept in her carry coy, which was ideal.

As she became older we bought a bed guard with two folding arms which slipped under the mattress of the bottom bunk bed. After the first time out, I fitted some 'U' brackets made for plastic water pipes under the mattress to slide the arms into and they never came out. It proved ideal.

Hi Jon...If you are unable to swop your 2 berth van yet, why not invest in an awning with a sleeping compartment, then one of you could sleep in the awning whilst baby Isobel sleeps in the caravan in the bed (at least one of you will have a reasonable night sleep). Not ideal I know but one solution perhaps.

Good luck Carmen..

We use the Graco Pettite Bassinet for our 6 month old (first went caravanning at 3 months) and it fitted between the front seats of our old Abbey Expression 500L perfectly. To be honest though it was a right pain as there was no room to move around and our van was a 5 berth!

We've since changed the van for a 6 berth with triple fixed bunks with a small rear dinette as well as the front dinette. The Pettite Bassinet fits perfectly between the rear dinatte seats and it's out of the way there so we just leave it there the whole time.

The Pettite Bassinet is about 3/4 the size of a normal travel cot.

Hi Jon,Laura and Isobel, our three children are now teenagers and have been raised in the caravan world. As each one was born and grew we would take them away regularly and we too have had end bathrooms etc.We used to use a king size duvet piled up on the floor of the bathroom area and a selection of their toys in the shower base. They used to snuggle down at night in the duvet(after going to sleep on Dads lap)and when they awoke you would hear them playing with the toys. They all say now how much they loved waking up caccooned in the warm duvet! Hope this is of some help.Regards Nige' Jen, Sam, Chezi and Bex

Jon, unfortunately without changing your 2 birth, the only realistic option may be to buy an awning and one of the adults (my guess it will be you Jon!!!) sleep in there.

Some friends of ours also have a 2berth caravan, they use the two front seats for themselves as two single beds (they don't make it up as a double bed) then they use the two long back cushions pushed together on the floor inbetween the two long parallel seats to make a bed up for their 2 year old, it is ideal because the child cannot fall out of a bed, is slightly off the floor and both parents can look down on the sleeping child! They said obviously they lose the floor space once the child goes to bed, but they both lay out on their beds and watch the TV which if isn't too loud, doesn't disturb the sleeping child, they can still use their kitchen and rear washroom without having to step around a sleeping child. Hope this helps.
