407 sw with reversing sensors

hi just brought a new car with no towbar fitted but reversing sensors, do i need a detachable tow bar so not interfear with the sensors or will a fixed one miss them. thanks all

I have the sister to your 407, and my Citroen C5 has the same sensors. I fitted a fixed towball to mine and yes, it does interfere with the sensors. A detachable ball wouldn't, but I just keep them switched off.

Do you know if its the same with all reversing sensors? looking at a car the other day which hsad them, was just going to get towbar swapped over if we get it.

I have heard a lot of complaints from fixed towballs and sensors. Either fit a detachable ball or turnoff the sensors, basically

My X-trail has reversing sensors and a fixed towball and I don't get any trouble solo but when the van is hitched and I put it in reverse I get a constant beep which is to be expected.

My Mk 3 Mondeo has reversing sensors. The fixed tow bar does not interfere. I would disconnect the sensors before I would risk a detachable tow bar. I have always thought that they are a recipe for disaster.

Same as a few of the other responses - VW Touareg with fixed tow bar does not interfere with the rear sensors and like William, I also prefer the added security of a fixed bar over a detachable.

Peugeot should be able to answer your query re the 407 if you are looking at a dealer fitted option, or even consider taking your car to them or an independent tow bar fitter and positioning a fixed bar in place (with sticky tape or chocks or something) to see if it interferes before you buy.

If you do think of a way to try this method, make sure it has the towball cover on when testing it.

Just go a new towcar (MB220) with rear sensors. Had a fixed towbar (Thule) fitted and it came with electonics pack which seemed to "tell" the Parktronic that a caravan was plugged in, so no problems once connected. Backing up to the ball, the system showed 4 yellows and a red before I actually hit the ball, so with a bit of practice (and a big pad to protect the back of the car) looks like a good system. This car has dashboard switch to disable parking sensors, so if the towbar stuff had not worked could always switch it off while towing. After all with a van hitched you are very unlikely to back into anything else !
