'58 Ford Mondeo Tdi Estate

We've had our Mondeo now for 2/3 weeks and we're very pleased with it, nice smooth ride, heavy car, but fuel consumption seems pretty good! Haven't got any figures yet, but now we are over the initial "where can we go now" rides, going to start keeping account. Today we went and collected the '07 Abbey 416 GTS. Mmm? seems a different pull with this over the Golf 130 Tdi. Softer power delivery, doesn't appear to pull hard if required? Generally in 5th on motorway altho' on flat/downhill stretches, 6th was an option. Anyone any thoughts? not really dissappointed, but expected a sharper grunt up gradients. Is a chip-up the answer, more fuel tho'? or do I learn to be more relaxed and live with it? Fuel consumption towing will give me a better idea overall I guess.

The trouble is vw diesels do pull well and the power does seem to come in hard(pd),where as on the other hand commonrail diesels do seem to be a bit more linear through out the engine speed range.

I have a Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 4x4 138Bhp (VW engine) common rail. With my Sprite Alpine 4 MTPLM 1,230kg it pulls very well, up through the gears and into 6th and 60mph in no time, on a incline I did accelerate and then realised I was doing 65mph and had to ease off, maintains 60mph in 6th on dual carriageways / motorways with no problem at 1,750 revs. When towing I am getting 34mpg also confirmed by another owner with the same car.

I used to have an 03 Mondeo Hatch and it was the same, you could use upto 5th but 6th gear you just couldnt use unless completly flat with no wind!! The car was a great tower tho.
I used to get 33-35mpg from mine.
