For caravanning I'd stick with CC Mayday, or C&CC who have a specifiic deal with RAC, as wiith both of these all units/outfits are covered. For solo driving without any van to worry about Ive always used Britannia Rescue who get good ratings. AA and RAC are notorious for putting up the renewal price but my daughter finds that a quick phone call to tell them its unacceptable brings it back down again. Poor respect for the customer but afraid thats the insurance bsuiness for you.
Must say though that neither Mayday or Britannia have ever sought to increase price other than by the normal infaltion type increases.

I agree with Clive, CC Mayday if you have a van, if you dont have a van many insurance companies offer free cover (usually with a company like Brittania) that also can be exelent, I was with the AA for 40years and had top cover costing over £200, but they still would not recover the van, if it became untowable (like a wheel bearing) the cover from Mayday is better at less than half the cost, "inc membership of the CC"

Just phone them up as I did back in march, and if you tell them you are going else where, they will knock a shed load off. I got £110.00 off without affecting cover. They are at the end of the day an insurance company and should be treated as such and as I never take my car or any other insurance renewal invitations without seeing if it can be bought cheaper, the same applies to the AA breakdown cover.

I swear by Green Flag, over my years i have been with them all.
Green Flag are a lot cheaper, very quick to turn up ( 1 hour max ) very helpfull and easy to deal with.
I wouldnt even consider any of the others.
I called them out on a mountain road in Sowdonia last year when the car broke down the breakdown truck turned up in 20 mins and within 40 mins the car was loaded, caravan hitched up and we were on our way home. Fantastic service.

We were musing on the point of being in the AA for years whilst in Dorset this year.
A chap was extolling the virtues of Red Pennant who were giving him excellent service at the time.
As it turned out we had a problem with our tow car which was giving real problems but turned out to be easily sorted in the end.
We were initially towed off the M40 within 20 minutes of phoning by a contract firm and delivered to Warwick services ( the edge of their region).
When the problem was spotted as a broken body-work to gearbox earth cable on our Sedona we advised the AA that a repair could be way to go rather than a tow home.
Within 15-20 minutes an AA patrol arrived and we were roaring back under full steam.
In all the service was brilliant and couldn't have hoped for better.
Yes it's expensive but we paled at what it may have cost us.
